I am hoping to get some feedback on the system we are seriously contemplating purchasing and installing. We need to provide 360 degree coverage on 5.8 GHz to serve as a main hub for our AREDN network. This installation is 263' up a guyed tower in the center of the area we hope to service. We are a self-funded group that can't afford the luxury of the best possible setup, but need to make sure we spend our money wisely and get it right the first time. We have to use a commercial climber to install the system.

I'm using two identical units. Both were flashed with aredn a few years back and were working as recently as last week. Decided to upgrade to latest version. First one went off without a problem. Used sysupgrade and upgraded to 3.22.1 (aredn-3.22.1.0-ath79-generic-ubnt_nanostation-m-squashfs-sysupgrade). It works fine.

According to thesupported platform matrix page, it says that my airrouters, bullets and nanostation m9s are AREDN Stable, but, NOT recommended for new deployments.  Might be low memory or non MIMO.  I was running version 3.20.1.0 and figured for a long time I might not be able to run 3.22.1.0 on any of these.

What's better than the Microtik LHG 5 Ghz XL?

I'm helping a friend with get mesh setup at his house.  We have tried the Microtik LHG 5 Ghz XL version for a point to point at it's highest power level and am finding it's just below the SNR needed for a solid connection (averaging 25 SNR, 84% LQ, 2% NLQ).   The location is smack dab in the middle of two sector antennas, both of which are pointed about 45 degrees away from his location in Yorba Linda:

how do i (instructions) to make 3,4,5 DTD ports to use at tower to connect three dishes.  I do not have a managed switch with me to test today

Nanostation Loco M2 - XW version

Got hold of a new Nanstation Loco M2 but it has the XW hardware and firmware v5.6.12 (XW).

It will not allow upload of a down version of firmware.  Is there an estimated time frame for testing and development of AREDN firmware for these newer versions of the Loco that appear to be the ones shipping now?

Zero degree downtilt omnidirectional MIMO 3.4 GHz antenna?

Does anyone know if there is an omni-directional 3.4 GHz MIMO-capable antenna with zero degree downtilt?

I have two of the Ubiquiti 3 GHz antenna, but they have a pretty aggressive six degree downtilt which has proven to be unusable in my rooftop-to-rooftop installation.  The nodes are close enough together that the gain of an omni antenna will more than suffice.

This is a recent dialog a mesh'er purchasing a Rocket M3 device had with StreakWave:

mesh'er:  Can you tell me the status of that device?
Streakware:   not on the ship yet. ...  they might be  updating the  Rocket m3. Oct 20 it has to fall into the  new regulation. 
mesh'er:  What new regulation?
Streakware:  What I was told  in 2020 those units  will have to shut down if there’s military operation going on.

Hi Guys

 

today I received my new NanoStationLocoM5. I could not wait, and started to get the AREDN Software on the Device. I chose the aredn-3.19.3.0.ubnt-rocket-m-xw-factory.bin. Now I am not sure if this the right firmware. I searched not the forum because i think this is a special problem

 

I describe my steps.

 

I am using an Ubuntu. I installed the tftp and conetcted to the 192.168.1.20. followed the manual and copied the file. Her e my output :
