Dumb switch usage

Hi everyone,

I am about to buy network switches for our still in planing deployment. Most sites will be using ES-8XP. My go-kit would be an ES-5XP.

As far as it goes, the switches would be more than enough for most situations, but if more ethernet ports are needed, is it possible to add a "cheap dumb switch" for non-POE devices like laptops ?

I do not have an available dumb switch to make tests... but with cheap prices for 24 and 48ports unmanaged switches, If a "command center" is deployed on the go, I just have to add/plug the switch to the kit.

Raspberry Pi as VLAN switch?

I have a Raspi in the shack connected via ethernet to my node to host meshchat and the onboard camera.

I know enough to think it should be possible to bridge the WAN vlan of the node to my home router via wifi from the pi.  However, all the linux networking configuration tutorials I've found seem to assume I already know what I'm doing (big mistake).

Can anyone walk me though it?

PS I'd like the Pi to have internet access at the same time, either directly or roundabout through the node.

trouble with config on HP ProCurve 2650

I am trying to set up my ProCurve 2650 and things arent adding up right.  I looked at one of the other models specs here on this site to see how they are being configured, and tried to modify it to my needs.  here is my physical port assignments
port 2 PC
port 47 Nanostation running DHCP server
port 48 Rocket dish with NAT 192.168.0.200
port 49 Wan connection to router

I want to use ports 40-46 as lan ports for the nanostation on port 47.
I want to DTD the 2 units on ports 47-48.
I want a WAN connection to port 48.

ProCurve 1700-24 switch

I have tried to use a ProCurve 1700-24 switch with the setup from Understanding VLAN's by K5DLQ. I have 2 NanoStation loco M2 and 2 NanoBridge M5. It seems that I cannot control all the necessary parameters. I use 5 ports on the switch. DtD between a NanoBridge M5 and NanoStation loco M2 is working, but the RF connection between the two NanoBridge M5 is only intermittent. The RF connection between the NanoStations is solid. Can the ProCurve be used successfully with AREDN?

Unifi Switch to Unifi Switch over SFP - Help getting DTD Linking Through Non-Mesh Network

I have two Unifi Switch 8's connected over SFP, one in my shop, the other in the house.
I have my mesh gateway unit connected at the house where the internet comes in, it is an ARHP.
I have an M2 Loco in the shop where I connect to a few other mesh devices via RF.
There is no RF connection between the house and the shop.

I'd like to be able to DTD the ARHP in the house with the M2 Loco in the shop via the Unifi 8 switches, which are not on AREDN.

12 volt network switch?

I need to expand a mesh network at a remote site.  It doesn't need a VLAN-aware switch, but it does need to run natively off of 12 VDC.  Anyone got a recommendation?

Thanks.

Remote Mgmt of Switch and Vlan Configuration SOLVED

I'm looking for validation that the following switch configuration would allow for remote management of the TS-5-POE. In this configuration the switch would have a DHCP reservation and NAT/firewall rule setup on Mesh Node 1.

Port                         1    2   3    4   5
Vlan 1 (MGMT)       U   E   E   E   U
Vlan 2 (DTD)           T    T   T   T   E

Port 1: Mesh Node 1 (120 degreee sector 3430 10Mhz)
Port 2: Mesh Node 2 (120 degreee sector 3445 10Mhz)
Port 3: Mesh Node 3 (120 degreee sector 3460 10Mhz)

Network Architecture with 4 Power Beam 300 radios and Three Switches

I am trying to set up a proof of principle demo using 4 Ubiquiti Power Beam 300 radios in a PTP backhaul with a relay site.  I have three Netgear 105eV2 switches with VLANs per AREDN docs. My questions are:
  • Do the settings look reasonable per the drawing attached?
  • Is this the proper way to put the radios back to back since they only have one Ethernet connection?
  • Can I run the relay switch in a "dumb switch" without the VLANS?
  • What is the IP relationship between the Radio and the Switch.  Is the switch receiving DHCP from the radio?

Smart switch Linking

Hello, I have a 305 foot tower i what to mount a ubnt 5 port tough sw. on, to run four nodes from. I will have a second 5port  ubnt tough sw. in the site building configured to run 4 Vlans.

1. Can I link via cat5/6 these two switches together ?
2.  Do i need a router in between the two switches or can i directly connect them?
3. Which ports are needed to do this  Vlans? or Wans?

The goal is to get by with one single run of cat5/6e up the tower running 48volt poe and dropping down to 24volts to run the switch and nodes.

Thanks

A crude mechanical ethernet switch

This "switch" is not a "real" switch, in the normal context of this forum, but I'm not aware of anything that would do this function, namely select one of several input/outputs to go to a common output/input.  And ignore the not selected ones.
