VLAN on CISCO kit

Subject says it all. Anyone using enterprise level switches and firewalls to route ARDEN traffic? Martin W2RWJ

Common Switch Configurations?

How do you have your switches configured and why?

1 LAN, 3 DTD, 1 WAN (1-3-1)?   pc, 3 bands nodes, tunnel

2 LAN, 2 DTD, 1 WAN (2-2-1)? pc/phone, 2 bands, tunnel

3 LAN, 2 DTD (3-2-0)? pc/phone/RPi, 2 bands

etc

Ready-to-Restore Network Switch Configs!

Check out the PLETHORA of READY-to-restore network switch configs for AREDN:

TP-LINK TL-WDR3600

Does anyone use one of these for their VLAN?

I would like to support the old Netgear gear (BBHN, tomato DDWRT) occasionally and run the Ubiquiti VLAN and maybe a 5 Ghz Ad Hoc network later on as 802.11AC devices become more prevalent.

Like many ARES groups we have a pile of these old Netgears and I want to stop dealing with them in my shack.

Netgear Switches, Software, and Configuration files

Disclaimer:  There are frequent errors between the keyboard and the chair.  :)

Configuration:  WIN10, Netgear GS108Ev3.

My Netgear GS108 died and it was replaced under the warranty.  I am attempting to configure this switch as a 5 LAN, 2VLAN, Wan using the AREDN files for switches.

Notes on Netgear GS105Ev2

In order to save and restore switch configurations on the Netgear GS105Ev2 switch, you must use the latest version of the switch firmware AND the latest version of the ProSafe Utility.

First, download the ProSafe Utility from the Netgear downloads page - version 2.3.5 - unzip and install.

Next, download the current firmware from the Netgear GS105Ev2 download page - version 1.4.0.2.

48V network switches and Ubiquiti 802.3AF adapter

For those considering long Ethernet runs between a PoE injector or switch and the Ubiquiti node, here is another option worth considering. On long runs, it is more efficient to power at a higher voltage, so you can use a Switch such as the Netgear GS108PEv3 or the Toughswitch TS-9-Pro at 48V. The key to success is to use a Ubiquiti Instant 802.3AF outdoor 48V PoE adapter at the node end of the cable. I recently tried this adapter with both types of switches and it works well. The Netgear switch is auto-sensing (true 802.3af) and the Toughswitch is passive PoE (not auto-sensing).

POE Switches on UBNT AREDN Devices

This is  a topic regarding use of the 802.3af capable POE switches and Ubiquiti devices with AREDN Firmware.  I noticed that the Rocket supports 802.3af and possibly other UBNT devices as well.  My questions:

1. Is 802.3af POE supported using the AREDN Firmware?  Is this feature built into the hardware by nature and is this capability lost when we set these nodes up for MESH?

2. If it does work, has anyone analyzed and put together a matrix chart showing which AREDN supported devices will work with 802.3af?

GS105Ev2 - incorrect password after config restore

I applied the switch configuration file (GS105Ev2_2-2-1.cgf) successfully but after trying to come back in to the Netgear configuration utility (and selecting the switch and hitting 'Apply') I am getting an 'Incorrect Password' error.  (password entered = aredn)  I feel I am just making a stupid rookie mistake but cant figure it out.  Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Newbie alert

Hi,

I need help configuring a Ubiquity 8 port Tough switch for use in a mobile deployment situation.  I am an Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon and have very little expertise with computers and networking.  We are just getting started in my area.
