Netgear Switches, Software, and Configuration files
Disclaimer:  There are frequent errors between the keyboard and the chair.  :)

Configuration:  WIN10, Netgear GS108Ev3.

My Netgear GS108 died and it was replaced under the warranty.  I am attempting to configure this switch as a 5 LAN, 2VLAN, Wan using the AREDN files for switches.

Version 2.3.5 of the Netgear Prosafe Utility under WIN10 gives an error "HTTP request error".  Documentation says to load some C++ stuff.  DO NOT DO THIS.  There is a web based Prosafe Utility that Netgear Support recommends and worked with me on to program the switch.  From your browser, enter the IP address of your switch.  That will bring up the Prosafe Utility.

The problem that we ran into was that the web based Prosafe did not like the AREDN ".cfg" files.  Netgear said that if I had the files in "clear text" that it was easy to upload the configurations.

Can I get the GS108Ev3 files in clear text from someone?

Vance,   I don't see in the web interface, or from the prosafe plus configuration utility, a way to save the configuration to a "clear text" format.   However, I'm currently running ProSafe v2.2.25 (in Win 10).   We are seeing that the .cfg files on the AREDN website can not be loaded by all netgears of the same model and rev.  This is an outstanding issue to resolve.    If you are able to find more details from netgear support of the definition of a "clear text" exchangeable configuration file, please forward.

There was a defect fixed in some netgear models where the password is saved in clear text format--this defect still exists in the GS108E latest firmware.  Could support have thought you couldn't access the restored configuration because you didn't know the password (and they were suggesting the password was clear text and you can look in the binary .cfg to see it?)
