Can a WRT54G do VLAN switching?

Since many of us have acquired quite a few WRT54G/S/L routers, what's the possibility of flashing DD-WRT on them and pressing them into service as a "poor man's" 100Mb managed switch? I'm a novice at VLAN's and such, but I've been reading several articles, including this one titled: 802.1q trunking on the Linksys WRT54G/S/L with DD-WRT and it seems like ALL models of WRT's (not just BBHN compatible ones) are capable of VLAN tagging.

Use of an airGateway as CPE and/or with a ToughSwitch for multi node management and 'deployable units'.

I recently began thinking about possibly using an airGateway here in my QTH as the number of Nodes will soon grow from one to 3 or 4.

Wondering if the 5 port ToughSwitch and an airGateway will permit me to have a separate 802.11n SSID I can change to whenever working on AREDN.

In the opposite direction, can we utilize airGateways as dtd'ed CPE for temporary SSIDs for use at Deployment sites and Demos?

I don't really want AREDN and my primary QTH wlan to intermingle, especially since my 'inner' wlan also uses 10 net DHCP addressing.

Using AirGateway with Toughswitch

Is there a way to use an AirGateway with a Ubiquiti ToughSwitch (5-port)? The AirGateway works okay when plugged into a POE injector, but I have not been able to make it work when plugged into a ToughSwitch using a jumper cable and an F/F connector. The POE to the connected Nanostation works, but I am not getting any data through the AirGateway to the ToughSwitch or any connected equipment.

Thanks and 73

Using the Tough Switch as a VLAN Switch

Has anyone used the TS in the same way that you would use a GS108E?
I noticed that the management interface for the switch is "hard-wired" to VLAN1 and I am wondering if this causes a problem (before I go out and buy one).
Thanks.

Netgear GS105E restore config file error

Hi,

I have a Netgear GS105E Switch (model V1.x) and try to upload one of the preconfigured configs (supplied bij EREDN). I get constantly a time error even if i reset the switch.

Any ideas?

access from 44.x network

We have a 44-network here that is not routed to/from the Internet.  While it has gateways to the internet, the gateways have the standard firewall in place which prevents Internet users from accessing the 44 network, except for a few specific port-forwards we have in place.

Netgear GS108Ev3 as vlan separator and switch

As per the instructions at http://www.aredn.org/content/configuring-netgear-gs105e-switch-lanwan-ports I configured a GS108Ev3 as a combo Ubiquity node LAN/WAN splitter and also as a switch on the WAN side.  Where I located this box I needed a few ethernet ports switched off the input WAN (connects to my main switch and router and in turn the cable modem) which would feed a couple computers not involved with AREDN.  One port is for the Bullet, 2 ports are the Bullet's LAN, and the rest are WANs.  The WANs

Access WLAN without switch

The motherboard in my Windows 7 PC came equipped with dual Realtek gigabit NIC's and I read in another forum where these can be configured to handle VLAN tagging. (Some Intel and Broadcom chipsets can also handle tagged frames.) The configuration consisted of upgrading to the latest Realtek (NOT Microsoft) driver, then installing the Realtek Ethernet Diagnostic tool. The tool comes in 2 flavors, one for Windows XP thru 8.1, and another written just for Windows 10.

Network Switch Configurations

We are updating the website with more information about network switch configurations.
On the main menu bar under Software you will see two new sub-menus: Netgear Switches and Ubiquiti Switches.
These lead to the various configurations with pictures of the setup.
The Ubiquiti ToughSwitch section is mostly complete and I am updating the Netgear section as fast as I can put together some decent screenshots.

Let us know if there is a particular configuration you want to see.

Toughswitch POE PRO 8 port

Hi All,

I ran out of ports on my 5 port ToughSwitch co I bought an 8 port ToughSwitch. My setup is pretty simple, and I set up the 8 port exactly the same as the 5 port with the addition of 3 more LAN ports. I have several RPi's doing various things I tam testing here. I will probably not have so many going at one time in the end, but for now I need the extra ports.

Port 1 is POE and connected to a NSM2.
Ports 2-7 are LAN ports
Port 8 is a WAN port
