Ubiquiti NanoStation XM vs XW

Forums:
I'm working on setting up an AREDN node, and since the rest of my home network is built on Ubiquiti, it seems like the NanoStation might be the right fit for me. I see that there are two versions, XM and XW, and I need to load the right software based on which version I get.

There's a web page, perhaps older than the current supported devices page, that I was pointed at:

EOL for ar71xx ?

Forums:
Is 3.22.12.0 the final release for ar71xx devices ( https://downloads.arednmesh.org/releases/3/22/3.22.12.0/targets/ )?  I have a number of Ubiquiti RM5-GPS units that run great on 3.22.12.0, but do not have the ability to be upgraded to the ath79 releases.  I tried many different sysupgrades and factory firmware images of the ath79 releases but no joy.  It's not imperative that they be upgraded, I just finally got a chance to do it.

New Mikrotik ac3 with RouterOS V7.8 installed by the factory. -problem?

Forums:
Hi, I just got a Mikrotik hAP ac3 with RouterOS v7.8 installed.   I read in the Aredn docs that I need to downgrade the RouterOS to v6.x and then flash the Aredn FW.  I've also read that you can not flash the ac3 with a version of the RouterOS earlier than what came from the factory.  So it seems I should send this back for a refund, if I understand correctly.  Much of this knowledge is from the OpenWrt page on the subject.   I've successfully flashed 6 hAPac Lites, 4 SXTsq5ac and 2 SXTsq lite 2 nodes, so I know the process.  Does anyone have recent practical experience or advice?  Thanks in a

CPE 220v3 working

Forums:
Hello everyone,

I just loaded the new 3.24.6 release onto a TP-Link CPE 220v3 and it is working fine.  Not sure what all has to be done to get the status changed from untested and unsupported to tested and supported, but I'm willing to give the testing a try.  The firmware was available for download, so I decided to give it a try and it has been working fine so far.  I did an upgrade from an older AREDN version; I didn't test the install from factory.

3.24.6 missing firmware

Forums:
Hello,

I see on the supported hardware page some of the entries are listed as supported, but have dashes where the filename is.  The firmware isn't available for download.  Is more firmware coming for the 3.24.6 release?  I'm specifically looking for the Ubiquiti Rocket M5 Titanium TI firmware.  It has 64 MB memory, and I'm willing to do whatever testing is necessary.  Thanks.

GL-AR300M & Direct TV 18" disc antenna

Forums:
Last month I decided to combine a GL-AR300M and and old 18" round Direct TV dish antenna. The 300M is temporarily mounted on wood slid into the hollow arm below the dish where the LNB was mounted. Initial tests here at home proved that it does work. I'm still playing with the best focal point position for the AR300M. Yesterday I tested the system in my truck with all DC power using the laptop USB port to power the AR300M and a 12v adapter for the laptop. The dish is mounted on short aluminum 1.5" tubing with a plywood base to make it stable and adjustable for aiming.

DHCP on DtD antennas - question

Forums:
Hi guys

A missing part of my AREDN puzzle, couldn't find an answer in the docs:

I have three antennas connected DtD using a POE switch. I plug in my notebook to a non-POE port of that switch and it gets an IP address assigned by DHCP.
  • Are there rules on which antenna will act as DHCP server when they are DtD connected? do the other two antennas automatically 'mute' their DHCP function?
  • Or do I have do deactivate DHCP on two of the three antennas?
Thanks!
BR

Hardware choices

Forums:
I have a chance to put new node or nodes on a local 200  foot tower to encourage local activity. Currently there is a bullet on 2.4 with an omni antenna. Tower work is being done which would allow new an additional nodes, possible 5 ghz to be installed. Currently no local activity but some interest. What hardware would be a good choice to install?
