Anybody interested in tunneling my node into the backbone?

North Whittier between the 60 and 605 Freeways

Hello all,

Looking to take the plunge and buy a Ubiquiti radio and join in the fun.

I have great line of sight to my north with no obstructions to Mt. Wilson and JPL. I am on a hill with a clear unobstructed viw from Azusa to Pasadena to the north of me.

I believe I am in the shadow of one of the Whittier Hills to my southeast that would preclude me from hitting Pleasants Peak.

I need some advice. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck as I start out here and I believe that my best bet is a 2.4G link to JPL from here.

Want to Trade For Ubiquiti Nanobridge M5

Hello LA County,

I need to unload excess if I want to get into the mesh part of the hobby.

I am looking to trade a 3 month old Tytera MD-380 DMR handie talkie with 2 batteries charger and stand and programming cable (fully functional, no dings, never been out of the shack) for a used fully functional Ubiquiti Nanbridge M5 with all parts including power injector.

Orange County Mesh links up with San Bernardino County

Forums:
Announcing a live link today from Orange County at Pleasants Pk with Yucipa, CA in San Bernardino County.   Everyone was excited to see TxMbps solid links of 26Mbps in both directions.  KI6BX-Keith and AI6SW-Shane are making a big splash in SBD County (and you all might recall KI6BX in the AREDN CERT forum).

Here's the details:

Pleasants Pk:   Rocket M5 with 120 Sector coverage to Riverside and San Bernardino County
Yucipa:   Rocket M5 with RocketDish.

We are seeing  +20 SNR in both directions at 35.7 miles on 5Ghz ch 171 @ 10MHz .

Nanobridge M5 In North Whittier

I finally got a new Nanobridge up pointing at JPL. The link is good, no obstructions. I bought the Nanobridge M5/25 versus the m5/22 and I seem to have slightly better link quality.

I am still putting my network together but I have a quick question: I turned off DHCP on my radio and am doing static IP addresses on all hosts (Server, PCs) and I cannot get DNS to work on the mesh (10.x.x.x) network with WIndows 10.

The SB Mesh Network Map

...and sometimes Ventura county as well. Hi all. The SBARC Mesh has a new visualization and mapping tool for our network. Check it out! https://www.sbarc.org/aredn-mesh-network/ The data on the map updates itself hourly. The location data is polled from the Nodes themselves. The link data is taken from the olsr-mod-dot-draw add-on. This is so far helping us to find where our poor links are. (we already knew somewhat, but it helps to be able to easily show others. :) ) 73 to all and I hope you like our map! eric - kg6wxc

Elsinore Peak Ready for Testing

The AREDN Elsinore Peak installation coverage is currently being tested into southern Riverside County.  There are a few things left to do up there to increase bandwidth off the mountain, but it will soon be fully operational.  This afternoon I took several empirical data points to prove out the modeling predictions. The mobile end was a Ubiquiti NanoBridge M2 (small 18dBi dish generally available used on ebay for about $30) held at shoulder height.

The Southern California Linux Expo

The 15th annual Southern California Linux Expo will be held March 2-5, 2017 at the Pasadena Convention Center.  What does that have to do with ham radio?  More and more every year, actually.

SCALE is unique among computer shows; they give a booth to any Open Source software group that has a good story to tell.  As a result, of the 100+ booths on the Expo floor, about a third aren't try to sell you anything - not for money, anyway :-)

And starting last year, SCALE hosted:

Seeking advice for first node set up in Long Beach

Greetings, thank you AREDN team for your work on this project, and for putting this website together, great information here! I’m looking forward to getting some nodes up soon. Here’s my use case: I live in Los Angeles, and I want to set up a VOIP link from a mobile station near westwood (my work) to Long Beach (home).

Yet another node on CP

Thought you'd like to see this photo.   It's me adding a 3GHz node to the cluster on Chatsworth Peak, between Simi Valley and the San Fernando Valley. This was done last Saturday.  The day before, I put an NSM3 up on my tower in central Simi Valley (about 5 miles away).   The two nodes established a link easily.  Running iperf under AirOS we're getting 17-18 Megabit/second.

We need to decide on a frequency & distribution plan for Ventura County before we deploy more 3 and 5 GHZ stuff.
