SSID change

any plan for a coordinated SSID switch from BroadbandHamnet to AREDN?
I've updated my nodes to AREDN, but changed the SSID to BroadbandHamnet to maintain functionality.

Announcement of Coverage to SoCal Riverside County

I can confirm the antenna install date of Aug 21, 2015 for 5Ghz coverage of Riverside County.   Don Hill, KE6BXT, and myself Joe Ayers, AE6XE, are jointly providing this coverage and wish to connect up with anyone in the coverage area (if we build it they will come :) ).  See attached radio mobile coverage map.  This is a Rocket M5 with 19dBi Sector.  The model is based on the same antenna on the other end, but you may elect to have a higher gain as needed.

Route flapping and looping in the SD network

I'm exercising part of the San Diego network by updating the software on a remote Raspberry Pi.

The data path looks like this, starting with marge.ka9q.net:

via Ethernet to ka9q-north (in University City);

via radio to w6qar-south (in Sorrento Mesa);

via ethernet to w6qar-e or w6qar-n (see below);

via radio to WL7AG-PQ (in Rancho Penasquitos);

via ethernet to WL7AQ-PQ-NE;

via radio to KG6EQU-MCHS (also in Rancho Penasquitos);

via ethernet to KG6EQU-MCHS-PI.

managed vs ad-hoc mode

I had hoped to bring this up at the meeting that was canceled for this month.

I have been trying to understand the cause(s) of poor performance on the SD mesh network that persists even after the move to "channel -2", 2397 MHz. Part of the problem is the OLSR route "flapping" and temporary routing loops I observed and reported on earlier, but I don't believe that's the whole story. I see a lot of ping time variability even when the links are unloaded and routing is stable, so I suspect it has to do with the transmitter control mechanisms in 802.11 WiFi.

I'm new and want to help

Hi all!

I because aware of the project at SCALE 14. I'm very interested in the project and I'd like to know how can I help and participate.

I'm located in the SFV. I'm southeast of Oat Mountain. The map shows a tunnel node on Oat and my first step would be to purchase equipment and see if I can connect to the node.

Second would be to see if I could hit the node on Verdugo Peak when it goes live.

New map service - Ventura County

Hi all, I've recently put up an experimental map server on the node here in Ventura County, which plots out current Ventura County Fire Department calls, Southern California Edison blackouts, and earthquake activity. (other data pending, including NOAA weather events, local APRS traffic via 2m, and air traffic via ADS-B and DTV dongle). Ideally, a lot of that information would be coming via the mesh from an EOC, but for development purposes some of this is pulled from Internet sources.

You can peruse this at:

Explosion of activity

In February of this year I gave a presentation on mesh network to SBARC, the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club.  At that time, there was no mesh networking going on in the area.  Apparently I ignited a spark :-)
