2.4 Same Channel (-2) Antenna Co-location

Forums:
Hi All,

I've been reading through the forums including a number of posts which address antenna co-location (on a single tower or mast) to provide 360 degree coverage.  Lots of pointers on using RF shield kits, physical separation, channel spacing, etc.

A lot of the discussion seems to focus on using 5GHz in a point to point configuration with well spaced channels.  This works when you're generally planning a network and coordinating channels in advance.

omni down angle

Forums:
I'm currently using an omni that has the elevation profile shown in the image. The maximum signal is between 0 and -10 degrees from the horizontal. For the distances between nodes this 5 degree down angle is problematic. It would be ideal if this were exactly 0. I'm having trouble find a an antenna in the 8 - 12 dBi range that radiates horizontal. Can someone recommend a product? -mikeu

Point to point (yagi vs. parabolic dish vs. grid dish)

Forums:
Anyone have a comment on which would be better for a highly directional link? Say I'm going to use a Rocket radio for instance with an external antenna.

I have the following yagi from a different project: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-4GHz-20dBi-Yagi-802-11b-g-WiFi-Antenna-RP-SMA-...

It is said to be 20 dbi gain.

AMO-2G13 continuity readings?

Forums:
Hello all,

I think I might have a bad AMO-2G13 omni antenna.  I've disconnected the cables.  Reading the continuity between ground and center pin on the vertical polarity connector, I read a dead short.  On the horizontal polarity side, I read an open... is this the normal condition?  Does anyone have one handy that they can check for me?

Has anyone opened up one of these antennas and have pictures of the elements that they could post?  Just wondering what this beast looks like inside.

SWR

Forums:

Most of the antennas I've seen advertised have 5.875 Ghz as the upper end of efficiency.

Has anyone done any testing on 5.9 Ghz (channel 180) to see what effect there might be on SWR?  Are there any suggested antennas that appear to have a wider bandwidth for the upper channels?

Horizontal vs Dual-Polarized Sectors

Forums:
We are getting are mesh going and we have been given about 20 120 degree Horizontally polarized sectors. I am just wondering what the pros and cons are for these.
I was looking at the Ubiquiti Dual-polarized sectors, but is there any benefit when using them on the mesh network over the Horizontally polarized?
Also I am wondering if there would be any interference issues by putting 2-3 on water towers to provide 2.4 AREDN coverage?

Thanks

I'm deploying some of these in a commercial environment, I'll report on performance once I have a chance for some testing they are an alternative to sectors for the 5ghz rocket.

Yagi on a Ubiquiti NanoStation M900?

Forums:

I'm trying to establish a connection of about 2 miles distant on 900MHz with my NanoStation M900..  I got one of these Yagi antennas, a 14dBi gain

TP-Link vs Lcom 15dbi Omni Antennas

Forums:
The TP-link antenna is held to its base by only some feeble glue.
I have now had 2 of them fail, by pulling loose from the base.
It MIGHT be possible to repair them, by taking the innards completely out of the tube,
straightening everything out, and carefully putting it back in the tube.
And using superglue.
The Lcom is much more rugged.  The TP-link is less expensive.
But strangely the Lcom is a lot shorter than the TP-link, so how can it have the same gain?

Spare dish available?

Forums:
I have a link using a couple of NSM3s, but it needs a bit more oomph.  I'd love to install one of the KP Performance dishes at one end.  But they only sell them in 4 packs and I don't need that many.  Does anyone have a spare one they'd be willing to sell?

Thanks!
