Presentation at Pacificon

Forums:
My presentation on ham radio networking using AREDN software has been accepted by Pacificon.  The convention will be held October 18-20th at the San Ramon Marriott, in San Ramon, California.  I've requested Saturday the 19th for my presentation with Sunday as the alternate day, but they haven't nailed down the schedule yet.

If you're in the area and contemplating attending Pacificon, I could use some helping packing the audience :-D.    Just leave the tomatoes behind ;-)

Hope to see you there!

AREDN at San Francisco Fleet Week 2019

Forums:

The San Francisco Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS), a unit of the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management (DEM), recently participated in the 2019 SF Fleet Week Disaster Debris Management and Emergency Route Reopening exercise on Pier 27 in San Francisco. The exercise tested the ability for the City, State, Federal, Defense & Private organizations to coordinate to re-open transportation routes into and out of the city following a major disaster. Agencies involved included SFFD, SFPD, PG&E, US Navy, US ACE, USCG, SFDPW, ACS, et al.

San Francisco Wireless Emergency Mesh Website Launched

Forums:

We've launched the website for SFWEM, complete with coverage simulations for our current sites: https://www.sfwem.net/sites

We're in the process of negotiating rights to at least 4 new sites on the eastern part of the city, some of which will give us the ability to link to the East Bay team.

We're still looking for additional operators throughout the city, and there's plenty of spare gear to get you started!

Bay Area Tunnel

Forums:
There's a couple of other networks setup around the Bay Area. Until we can get dedicated wireless links setup, I'd like to get some tunnels running. We have a dedicated tunnel server running for SFWEM. Contact me for details. sfwem@undef.net

Also, we're looking for the POC for the Oakland/East Bay mesh.

SFWEM Updates: New Hams, New Sites, New BOM, New Events

Forums:
First, I'd like to welcome my long-time friend Pascal to the wonderful world of ham radio: KN6GFJ!

His first order of business was getting our latest RF & Tunnel nodes up and running, along with Jeff AJ6IY. They are now running a point-to-point 5 GHz connection in the Potrero Hill neighborhood, with an IP tunnel backhaul to ORION. I believe there is still some tuning to do on their RF link, but eventually we'd like to get a 5 GHz sector antenna Hub pointed west and south from that Location, giving us coverage of the Outer Mission and Hunters Point (tbd).

Oakland Mesh

Forums:

Is anyone running a mesh in Oakland?

North Bay Mesh?

Forums:
Just wondering if there's any mesh networks in the Northbay. I live in Sonoma on the hill and have a great view towards San Pablo bay and I think it be a great spot for a node. Although I may be out of range.
