Opportunity to participate in Humanitarian Experiment in Alameda, CA

Forums:

[cross posted to broadband-hamnet forums]

All,

Every quarter the Naval Post-graduate School (NPS) in Monterey holds a Joint Inter-agency Field Experiment (JIFX) in-which groups are invited to participate in a multi-day event with a focus on collaboration and experimentation. The second JIFX of 16 (16-2) is being held in Alameda, CA and is focusing on Maritime and Humanitarian interests. There's a specific RFI that I thought might be of interest to the Broadband Hamnet/HSMM-MESH community below:

Mt. Hamilton Radio

Forums:
Hello,

I posted this in the other thread - but it didn't show as the latest post - since someone perusing may miss my question - I am posting here JIC:

I have line of sight to Mt. Hamilton in San Jose - I have a radio up now - Ubiquiti Bullet 5GHz.

What is the latest on this?  Is there a radio on Mt. Hamilton?

Choosing a channel, mesh maps

Forums:
I'm planning to set up a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz node at my house in east Milpitas. However, now that we have a choice of channels (0, -1, -2) on 2.4GHz gear, where do folks usually set up in the bay area? Is -2 and 10MHz b/w a good default to assume? Is channel 0 at 20MHz b/w more typical? Or are these the wrong questions?

On a related note, does AREDN have a "deployed mesh nodes" map similar to broadband-hamnet's site? It would be useful for both casual experimentation and for EMCOMM linking.

Bay Area Tunnels?

Forums:
We're growing a mesh here in Livermore and wondering if there are any tunnel servers we can hook up to in the area. I'm close to having a firewall set up to drop any encrypted traffic and would like to grow our user base.

Thanks,

SJO to SJV Connection

Forums:
Team,
I'm working on a project remotely (I'm in SoCal, but have some land up near Patterson) and I'm looking for a contact for a site up on Mt. Hamilton.

My plan is to put a 5GHz relay site up there, another at Mt. Oso, and a third halfway between the two.

Most of the repeaters I could find on Mt. Hamilton belonged to groups that aren't active anymore, but since I'm not up there, I don't have too much to go on.

I'd appreciate any leads/introductions from this group.

Thanks!

SFWEM Now LIVE on the San Francisco VA Building

Forums:

We now have live 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz nodes on top of the San Francisco Veterans Administration building in the Outer Richmond, SF.

Anyone with a view of the facility from anywhere in San Francisco should be able to connect to our nodes. The beams are pointed South-South-East from the top of the VA.

San Francisco Wireless Emergency Mesh (SFWEM)

Forums:

Hi All,

I'm in the process of standing-up a wireless mesh in the city based on the great work done by the folks in the east bay. Thus far I have three nodes online and am looking forward to interconnecting with others in the city interested in participating. Depending on how you look at it, the city's urban landscape and property bureaucracy make installing permanent and dedicated mesh endpoints challenging.

I've taken to calling this mesh the "San Francisco Wireless Emergency Mesh" (SFWEM). The nodes I have are configured as follows:
