20230626 RC-1 Where can I find it?
Just got home from vacation and would like to try the release candidate on my test nodes.  Where can I find it?

I see now RC-2 20230719 has been announced.  Under nightly builds I see only 20230722. I guess I do not understand how this works.

Prior discussion

I previously attempted to discuss RC issues and approaches in another thread here:     https://www.arednmesh.org/content/regular-stable-release-cycle-please

However, I seemed to get no feedback from the active devs and then the final poster suggested thar my thread was "BS" so I quit those attempts.

Hopefully this revival of an RC approach does currently focus solely on bugs and other issues and is otherwise holding back on new wizz-bang features/hardware/etc but there's no real indication of that. It would seem that the Nightly Builds remain a constantly evolving BETA approach.

BTW (to that "BS" poster): I have always specifically thanked the devs for all their hard work thru all my posts here over the past 6 years. and I do so again now. Thank you!

Release Candidate .vs. Nightly Builds

Hi, Don:

Essentially, the Nightly Builds are Release Candidates.

See WT0F's comment

I fully support the second post in that thread, specifically the one by WT0F.

I do NOT agree with the overall concept that "Essentially, the Nightly Builds are Release Candidates." Nightly releases are, almost by definition, BETA development efforts that are open to any/all new coding on any/all fronts - basically: "hey try this".

Release Candidates should lock changes down to solely bug/issue fixes with the goal of a then STABLE RELEASE. If I am not mistaken, there is nothing stable about Nightly Builds - they are a snapshot in time, some better, some less than optimum. Good effort, good intent, but still experiimental in unpredictable ways.

Thanks,
- Don / AA7AU

"A release candidate (RC)...is a beta version with the potential to be a stable product"
Nightly Build 20230722-7c158ea has been identified as Release Candidate 2.
