Hi Damon,
I just ordered an AR300M (i. e. without the "16" but external antennas) which seems to be equipped with 16 MB nor flash AND 128 MB nand flash an it is said that one can boot it from either flashes selectively -> https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/2/hardware/ar300m/
I wiil try and look and see but can anybody possible know more details on this issue?

Any success installing ARDEN firmware to GL-AR300M -EXT equipped with 16 MB nor flash AND 128 MB nand flash? I was having trouble selecting the 16MB flash and it was suggested to use uboot via uart. I've soldered leads and have a USB to UART adapter, but I haven't figured out what software to use and how. I know it says "not compatible", but if I have one, I'm gonna try.
I installed aredn firmware. Went OK. Then it has me change the node name and and password and restart.
It said rebooting for 5 minutes so I clicked on localnode etc.
It did not connect. Now the node has no wireless network and cannot log in.
Yes it is a GL-AR300M16.
The reset brought it back to its senses.
I again changed the node name and password.
Clicked on aply changes.
Then is goes to "rebooting". And it stays there forever.
Could be the GL.iNet device is fine, but you are not reconnecting after the node name & password have been set. At that point, it is going to switch its address to 10.X.X.X.X.
1. Check you are using the LAN port and not the WAN port.
2. Verify that the GL.iNet node is assigning you a new 10.X.X.X IP address after you set the node name and password. Try unplugging the connection, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in. If you got a valid address it should be working.
3. Of course, make sure you have gone back to DHCP assignment on your computer interface if you used a static address to reflash the node.
4. Make sure you unchecked "Keep Settings" when you flashed the AREDN sysupgrade.bin file in OpenWRT.
5. Rebooting after the initial setup can take a long time on this device. Be patient. I successfully reflashed 2 of them about a month ago and it went fine, so the process does work on this release assuming you don't have some other problem.
Using LAN port. Reboot did not end after 12 hours. Using the 10 second reset, got back to the normal initial page.
I can change the node name and password, but if I tell it to reboot, I will be back where I started.
If I unplug it, I am also back to requiring a reset. Did not use static address when reflashing.
Unchecked keep settings.
If I unplug it, I am also back to requiring a reset.
Hi, Bob:
What is your computer's IP address before and during loading the AREDN firmware?
What is your computer's IP address after the reboot?
After setting node and rebooting, you need to allow/make/force your computer to
obtain a new IP address from the AR300M16.
You have not yet mentioned attempting to obtain a new IP address after setting node name and password.
As mentioned in https://www.arednmesh.org/comment/20035#comment-20035
"2. Verify that the GL.iNet node is assigning you a new 10.X.X.X IP address after you set the node name and password. Try unplugging the connection, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in. If you got a valid address it should be working."
As mentioned in the documentation:
After the Firmware Install
After the node reboots, it should have a default IP address of 192.168.1.1. By default AREDN® devices provide DHCP on their LAN interface, so your computer will receive an IP address automatically from the node. Ensure that your computer is set to obtain its IP address via DHCP.
You should be able to ping the node at 192.168.1.1. Don’t proceed until you can ping the node. You may need to disconnect and reconnect your computer’s network cable to ensure that your IP address has been reset.
I did not note the IP address before and during loading the AREDN firmware. That is in the past now and there is no way to know.
Since the reboot never finishes, what IP address are you referring to?
How do I get my computer t get an address from the GL? Since the reboot never ends, do you mean get an address after I end the reboot?
I can't change the node name and password because the reboot never ends.
Ping has no results at 192.168.1.1 before the reboot is started.
That is in the past now and there is no way to know.
Then the next time you load the AREDN firmware.
I think your computer is getting an IP address from the AR300M16 in the 192.168.8.x network.
You load the firmware and reboot.
The AR300M16 reboots and is now using 10.x.x.x and is offering an IP address to your computer in a 10.x.x.x/29 range,
but your computer is still using 192.168.8.x.
Thus your computer never sees the AR300M16 reboot.
This is why the documentation says:
"You may need to disconnect and reconnect your computer’s network cable to ensure that your IP address has been reset."

and https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/dev/uboot/

Using uboot console
If you want to use uboot console, you need to open the case and solder the serial connectors.
Then you need to set up a tftp server.
in uboot console, the command to flash nor flash is run lf to flash nand firmware is run nlf
It said rebooting for 5 minutes so I clicked on localnode etc.
It did not connect. Now the node has no wireless network and cannot log in.
Help!
Bob W8ERD
I hope you have a GL iNet AR300M16.
On the /status page, click "Help".
Then click "Failsafe Feature"
Failsafe Feature
The failsafe feature is a method for restoring a node to an operational state after it has fully booted its firmware.
Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds to reset the root password to 'hsmm' and clear DHCP leases.

I think your computer is getting an IP address from the AR300M16 in the 192.168.8.x network.
