Tunnel server
Any way to make a tunnel server in the cloud or just on a regular linux computer with out wasting  up a node that could be used for rf mesh?

You could waste-up a Gl.iNet AR150 @ $26 plus s+h
and gain a local Wi-Fi Access Point.

I highly recommend this device for certain applications, however it only works with the Nightly Build (until we get our next Stable version) and I think that the tunnel package does not work with other nodes which are running pre-current Nightly Build tunnels. If you can get your hands on a copy of the older v1234 Nightly Build, that works great in it (but you still can not install tunnels for that version any longer).


Don't recall if the MikroTik hAPlite runs the previous stable version, but if it does, that is a very nice device and would work well as a tunnel server IMO.

hAP runs 3.19.3.0 just fine.
Yes, the hAP does just fine with 3.19.3.0 (have one running that here).

I dont mind using equipment
I dont mind using equipment but was thinking of a static ip address. And for 2.00 a month to spin up a virtual server.  Just thought might he a good solution

Meaning of (tun) or (tun,wan) info

I have 2 clients nodes linked to my tunnel server:
a) IZ5FSA-5-140 is connected as D2D
b) IR2UFV-NSM5-NW and IZ5OQO-HOME are connected via IZ5FSA-HOME Tunnel Server
You can see in table what I mean...
What's the meaning of the tun or wan info put in brackets?
And why are different each other if connection is the same?

In addition to the neighbor node name, there may be a text abbreviation in parentheses that tells how the neighbor node is connected.

  • (dtd) indicates a Device to Device connection using an Ethernet cable between the nodes. The neighbor may be listed twice if both an RF and DtD path exist.
  • (tun) indicates the path to the neighbor node is over an Internet tunnel. (tun*?) next to a mesh node in the Remote Nodes column indicates the node has tunnel links over the Internet to connect mesh islands together. ? is a number indicating the number of tunnel connections on that node.
  • (wan) indicates the node has been configured as a Mesh Gateway. Typically this is a gateway to the Internet, but it may also be to another isolated network.
