this is a trivial code change, but need to dig around and find the various locations, for both Openwrt upstream code and AREDN code. I should have time later today California timezone, and will post a link where you can download and help test with a new image.
The sysupgrade process, from telnet window you could add the "-f" option on the command line to force it to flash the image -- 'should' work :) . Then after it boots from flash, in /www/cgi-bin/perlfunc.pm, find the old string and edit to be the new model string. Need to look, maybe other places as well, but should have core functionality working at that point.
sysupgrade should now work from .elf boot without "-f" option. After booting AREDN from flash, make the edit again plus the "perlfunc.pm" edit for AREDN UI basic setup to work.
I did manage to flash image and router now boots into aredn. However I can see some issues. Lan is only available on port 1, other 3 ports are dead, I didn't check port 5. Is this expected behaviour?
Also 5GHz lan doesn't work (it is enabled).
So I wasn't able to connect router to wan, and also I have only one router flashed for now.
There is support data after flash attached for debugging.
It's necessary to edit "/lib/ar71xx.sh" with the above change after booting from the .elf image in RAM, prior to sysupgrade flashing. This change is necessary for the swtich configuration and vlan definitions to be setup correctly. The sysupgrade should not require the "-f" option, then after booting with AREDN, telnet in and modify the "lib/ar71xx.sh" (a 2nd time) and "/www/cgi-bin/perlfunc.pm" files. Then going into AREDN basic setup to configure.
I just realized, you'll need an image created. The problem is the image you have does not know about this model. As soon as you boot, many things are setup, including vlans, before you are able to make any updates. Then you'd have to manually correct all the vlans, led fuctions, etc. Building an image now...
Success. I think most of the things works as expected. Only thing that I can't do is install packages, I'm not sure if this is connected to this issue, I'll try to dig up more.

The packages have signatures. My private build images do not match the signatures of the packages in the nightly build. This change can get into the next nightly build. Look to load the images after about Monday 9:30 AM GMT from the nightly build, then the package updates will work. (When another build occurs, sysupgrade to the latest version to do package updates.)
Glad it is working, and thanks for testing, now others won't trip in this pot hole.
I have 2 hAP's and they are running very well. Thank YOU Joe and the AREDN team for including the MikroTik series of gear. Looking forward towards deployment in the Inland Empire of Southern California.

Several attempts at loading the AREDN firmware have failed. I get the initial load to take and when I attempt to load the nightly build, I get disconnected before
the load starts. I've watch and followed the video many times and cannot get this to proceed any further. What have I missed? Thanks Jim W8ERW
I've installed three hAPlite units - and LOVE them. However, every one was quite difficult to flash initially and took multiple tries. The steps in the video *may* be out of order for the disconnect/reconnect parts. Also, I have a continuing boot problem where the unit will stall after a reboot request if an active WAN connection is present (see other posts).
I'd suggest a couple of things as work-arounds: 1) disconnect any WAN connection during the process; and, 2) try inserting a "dumb" switch in between the unit and your LAN device to buffer the hardware and DHCP hand-shaking taking place during the process.
It's well worth the effort - it has been called the AREDN "Swiss Army Knife" with good reason.
I totally agree Don! These units are FABULOUS and well worth the effort! I have been using my 2 hAP's as a "test bench" in the shack by adding services (ip cameras, PBX software) before going "prime-time". I just acquired the MikroTik BaseBoard 2G & BaseBoard 5G with the Altelix MIMO dual band / dual polarity vertical. I will flash the ARDEN firmware on both BaseBoards and deploy my vertical this weekend.
Flashing the MikroTik does take a bit of patience as I learned from flashing my first hAP. I didn't wait long enough when I perform the sysupgrade. Once I got over the learning curve (and waited over 5 minutes after flashing the sysupgrade), flashing my second hAP was much faster.
Yes, the Mikrotik devices are totally worth the effort. I was using the Linksys WRT54GS units as a test bench over the years. With the hAP's, they are truly "the swiss army knife of AREDN"!
Don, Your suggestion worked very well. I have another issue however now that I successfully reflashed the router. It now has the latest nightly build and all looks well save for the fact that it is no MESHing with the other nodes which are AirRouters. I don't see it hearing anything nor do I see it on the other nodes. Using channel -2 and 5 Mhz. I did change the channel to 6 and 20 Mhz and it then was seen on a WiFi scan locally. Many reboots etc have had no impact. Any thoughts here?
I appreciate all the feedback on this. I have two of these, hAP AC Lite. Neither will join the MESH. I did set one of them up with a tunnel connection and that worked very well. Indeed it was the only way it could be seen on the MESH. It appears we will either wait for some fortunate further developments or relegate these two devices to some other function. It does appear to be working in all respects other than joining the MESH locally (RF). I'll take it with me this week as I will be mobile and see what it does. So far as a tunnel linked node it is working well. The 5 Ghz wireless access is a good feature that I do see positive function for. My original thought was to make use of the expanded memory and make it the node supporting tunnel links and Hamshack Hotline, both are viable as is DtD linking. Thanks...
Just feedback. I've been running the nightly builds and, so far, no issues. Loaded as expected. Joins the mesh OK, 802.11 WiFi works well. Currently running aredn-768-f82e903-mikrotik-rb-nor-flash-16M-ac-sysupgrade. Thanks to all involved! Don, KM4DC
Here is my current experience with the hAP AC Lite. I have two, one looks to be the US version and the other international. Both have been successfully flashed with the latest 3.19.3.1 firmware release. First, really nice new capabilities with the device. The dual band function allows for local wireless access via 5Ghz and it works well. The larger memory will no doubt be much better when adding apps like MeshChat and iPerfspeed. The downside at least for me so far is that neither of these devices will MESH with existing Ubiquity devices. They MESH well with each other however and implement a tunnel connection well. Dtd also works well. Has anyone been able to determine why some of these work while others do not? My personal suspicion is that there is some parameter that is different and if changed, they would MESH with the Ubiquity devices.

I had read comments earlier and misinterpreted what was being said. I thought the reference to 5MHz was the 5GHz side of the dual band device. Now this makes more sense. Still an interesting situation but now predictable and with the necessary situational awareness. For the present at least, we're all on the 5MHz channel width in this area.
I do want to say again how much we in the user community appreciate the dedicated effort the AREDN team continues to give to this project.
Jim, good point. The hAP ac lite will only 'mesh' on 2GHz (at 20MHz and 10MHz channel widths). It does not do mesh on the 5GHZ radio at all. This is the 802.11ac chip and this is a different driver, has not been ported to do part 97 channels or to enable 10MHz and 5MHz channel widths.
