Configuring DTD on a GL-iNet GL-AR300M16
Hello,

I am building a mobile AREDN setup using an ALFA Tube and a GL-iNet GL-AR300M16 router. My goal is to connect a laptop through the router’s Wi-Fi hotspot and use the system to conduct a HaLow propagation survey.

I successfully flashed both devices with AREDN firmware version 4.26.7. My base station consists of a MikroTik hAP ac2 router connected to another ALFA Tube.

The two ALFA Tubes connect to each other successfully; however, the GL-AR300M16 does not appear to establish a DTD connection with the mobile ALFA Tube.

I noticed that the GL-AR300M16 interface does not include an “Ethernet Ports” configuration panel, so I am unable to configure Port 2, labeled LAN, for DTD operation. I also checked the swconfig file and found that it does not contain any configuration data.

Could you please advise how to enable or configure DTD capability on the GL-AR300M16?

My recollection is that this
My recollection is that this model router doesn't have the ability to provide VLAN2 for dtd.  I use one similar for a travel router and cable LAN to my laptop and have the wifi connect to internet for a tunnel connection on the road.  Sometimes I use my cell phone hotspot for internet then connect the router to the hotspot.  If you want a single device in your go kit to connect dtd to another AREDN device and provide LAN wifi, I'd use a hAP ac lite or you could put a $10 dumb switch between the AR300M16 and the ALFA tube.    Ed

Or ... as your needs don't indicate needing another AREDN router but just wifi access rather than cable to your laptop ... ditch the AR300M16 entirely and just put an inexpensive wifi access point on the cable from the ALFA tube.
