Wifi Scan queries
Hi experts,

running a wifi scan on one of our nodes, I get a list of nodes found, on the same and on different channels. All of them have the SSID AREDN-10-V3.
  • The host names of the nodes are not displayed in the list. Why ?
  • There's one node on the same channel which seems to disturb the communication with our remote node. On the list, I only see its MAC address. How can I find its IP or host name?
We're running on firmware 3.25.5.1.

Thanks for your help in advance!

The hostname only shows up if
The hostname only shows up if an AREDN node is on the same channel, same bandwidth, and is connected as a neighbor node.  The other nodes with SSID AREDN-10-V3 are nearby nodes running AREDN but on different channels, so the host name is not shown as your node is not rf connected to those other nodes.

Other stuff with different SSIDs are other wifi devices nearby.  To really understand what's going on, you have to increase the bandwidth of the node you want to use to scan as most consumer wifi has bandwidth 40 mhz or more.  Most AREDN is 10mhz so you don't get enough of the spectrum to resolve what's going on.  Change the settings in the radio part of the control panel to the maximum width available and rescan, you will show a lot more devices nearby.

Be careful ... while your bandwitdh is larger you are no longer connected to your network (I think).  If you change the bandwidth to a remote node that you are the only connection to ... you can't get back to it to change back to 10mhz and have to visit the node to put it back on the network.  So long as the remote node you are fooling with is dtd to something else you can still reach on the network you can navigate back to the node to put it back.  Just think before you act.
