Tunnel request – Austria / OE5CAC

Hello,

I'm looking for a tunnel connection for a temporary AREDN demonstration in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.

The initial purpose is to demonstrate AREDN to the chairman of our local amateur radio club as part of getting approval for a larger AREDN project. If possible, I would keep the demonstration network running for the remainder of the club evening so other members can explore AREDN as well.

At the moment, I cannot find any publicly visible AREDN infrastructure in Austria. A tunnel would therefore allow me to demonstrate connectivity beyond the small local test mesh and show actual services and nodes available through the wider AREDN network.

The longer-term plan is to establish an Austrian AREDN network, potentially centered around a Supernode. My current concept is based on the approach used in Switzerland, with Supernodes effectively forming a national boundary before traffic enters the potentially wider/global AREDN network.

The Supernode itself would initially have no RF links. Its main purpose would be to interconnect geographically separated Austrian AREDN nodes and local meshes. RF would primarily be used further out in the field, wherever individual operators want to establish RF links. A local RF access point at the Supernode site may be added later.

For now, however, I'm only looking for a suitable tunnel connection for the demonstration and initial testing.

Callsign: OE5CAC
Node: OE5CAC-MOX-Test
Grid: JN87CT
Location: Wiener Neustadt, Austria
Site: Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt (FHWN), main building
Hardware: Turris MOX
AREDN version: 4.26.1.0, self-compiled for the Turris MOX
Wi-Fi: None – this build/device is used as a wired AREDN node

The demonstration node can initiate an outbound tunnel connection and will only be used temporarily for the demonstration/testing setup.

If anyone has tunnel capacity available and would be willing to provide a connection, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and 73,
OE5CAC

Tunnel credentials sent, however,...
I think the closest nodes are DG2HA and DG6TOM and
may be reached via PM here at arednmesh.org.

Thanks to NC8Q for providing

Thanks to NC8Q for providing the tunnel credentials, and to KD1HA for offering a tunnel as well!

Unfortunately, it was a little too late for the actual demonstration — it took place at 5 PM my local time (3 PM UTC). However, I did get approval from the club to move forward with the project, so the important part was successful. :)

If it’s okay with NC8Q, I would be very happy to keep and use the tunnel he provided for a while for personal testing. It would give me the opportunity to explore the “far side” of the AREDN network, experiment with it, and gain some practical experience before I start deploying the actual infrastructure.

Since NC8Q has already provided me with a tunnel, I’ll use that one for now, but many thanks to KD1HA for the offer!

Once I begin bringing the first nodes at the planned site in Wiener Neustadt (JN87CT) online, I’ll also get in touch with DG2HA and DG6TOM regarding connectivity and coordination on the European side.

So while the tunnel didn’t quite make it in time for the demo, the project itself has now received the green light. Thanks again for the help!

Cedric, wish you luck with your project! We all know it's not easy and if you need anything else just ask!
