trouble connecting to node status page via toughswitch

Happy December!

i've set up my toughswitch for 2 nodes (A/NBM3 on port 1;LANs on ports 2/3; B/ARHP on port 4:LAN on port 5)

when i connect my iMac's ethernet to port 5, it does not receive a 10.x.x.x address from the ARHP, but instead self-assigns to a 169.x.x.x address.  any thoughts on what i've misconfigured?

The 'DtDlink' port on the AR
The 'DtDlink' port on the AR that is connected to the toughswitch does not carry the AR's LAN traffic over to make available on the toughswitch.  It's strictly DtDlink traffic or vlan 2 only.     Logically, the AR can be thought of as a mesh node, but the toughswitch is already built into the same packaging instead of 2 physical devices.
