Southcentral PA Activities
Good afternoon,

AREDN is starting to develop in South Central PA, with links to Ohio, California, Florida, Connecticut, Maryland, Utah, and Virginia. We are using it for connections to low-speed data systems, such as Winlink and bulletin board systems, as well as for information sharing, situational awareness, VoIP, and teleconferencing. We have in-state connections to western and eastern PA, and are looking to extend the RF part of the network.

At present, there are two nodes up, one on Blue Mountain at Waggoners Gap, north of Carlisle, and one on Blue Mountain three miles north of Harrisburg. These nodes are on 5GHz running a 10 MHz bandwidth. The current plan is to have RF nodes use specific channels based on the direction of the node antenna for end-user ease of setup.

There are a few public safety and emergency management organizations requesting a basic introduction to the system, and I have been presenting the information to them. Generally, folks have expressed an interest in setting up RF nodes or participating in end-user activities.

If anyone has comments or questions, please let me know. Thanks!
