Reload Ubiquity firmware
I have two Ubiquity Loco M2's that had AREDN software loaded probably 5 years ago now. I have since lost the info so I don't know the passwords and more importantly I have no idea what subnet and IP address they were changed to. I would like to reload Ubiquity firmware on these M2's,

Currently on both units when powered the 0 LED lights and the max LED flickers and then stays lit.  I tried the tftp mode but It does not seem to have the sequence that the ARDEN tftp documentation describes. Holding reset and powering gives a flashing between the center two LEDS, one red and one green. Even if it was in tftp mode would I not need to know the IP address? I tried pinging 192.168.1.20 to no avail. Does tftp use this address no matter what subnet the M2 had been previously configured to? Perhaps I should just try and tftp to it at that address but I wanted to confirm that was the correct procedure.

Flashing LEDs

When the LEDs are flashing in that manner, it is indeed in TFTP mode and should be found at 192.168.1.20.
If it doesn't respond to pings, possibly its Ethernet port has failed.

Orv,
Orv,
Thank you. I will try an upload. Another question I wonder if you can answer is that the ubiquity site lists two board types for the M2 downloads, XW and XM
How would I determine which to use?

I am about ready to give up
I am about ready to give up on this as I have tried several times on two M2's with no success. These were taken out of service in operable condition and put away not connected to anything so I kind of doubt they would both have Ethernet problems. I can put both in tftp mode but cannot ping 192.168.1.20 on either one and obviously tftp put does not work. Yes, I tried different cables.

If anyone has any other ideas what to try before I trash them, please let me know. I guess I could open one up but then what? What is the procedure for opening without doing too much damage?

Reload Ubiquity firmware

Hi, Doug:

"I have two Ubiquity Loco M2's"
I have 2 Ubiquity M2 XWs.
Inside the cover on mine I see
1725G 788a201aea22 and
1725G 788a201aeaa7.
What is inside the cover on yours?

"I have since lost the info so I don't know the passwords"
Failsafe Feature
The failsafe feature is a method for restoring a node to an operational state after it has fully booted its firmware.
Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds to reset the root password to 'hsmm' and clear DHCP leases.
Press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds to return the node to a "firstboot" configuration. All previous configuration settings will be lost.

"I have no idea what subnet and IP address they were changed to."
If they have AREDN loaded on them they may have a DHCP server active.

"I would like to reload Ubiquity firmware on these M2's"
Load/Reload: same thing.
Follow Ubiquiti web site's instructions.

"I tried the tftp mode but It does not seem to have the sequence that the ARDEN tftp documentation describes. Holding reset and powering"
and waiting for 20-30 seconds should give 4 flashing LEDs, 2 on, 2 off; 2 off, 2 on.

Docs: 'Put the Ubiquiti device into TFTP mode by holding the reset button while plugging your node’s Ethernet cable into the POE port on the PoE adapter. Continue holding the device’s reset button for approximately 30 to 45 seconds until you see the LEDs on the node alternating in a 1-3, 2-4, 1-3, 2-4 pattern, then release the reset button.'

"would I not need to know the IP address?"
Nope, if it is in TFTP if should respond to pings to 192.168.1.20.
"I tried pinging 192.168.1.20 to no avail."
Did your workstation have an IP address in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet?

"Does tftp use this address no matter what subnet the M2 had been previously configured to?"
Yes.

"Perhaps I should just try and tftp to it at that address but I wanted to confirm that was the correct procedure."
The device should respond to pings before continuing with TFTP upload.

"... XW and XM. How would I determine which to use?"

Try both. The one that works is the correct one. :-|

Still no luck with these M2's
Still no luck with these M2's.  The serial numbers are 1607K....    and  *1511G..

They just don't seem to respond to anything on the Ethernet. They do go into tftp mode but no ping at 192.168.1.20 and yes I am using a computer in the 192.168.1.x subnet.

Can anyone give me the Ubiquity mac prefix for the M2's?  I have about 50 items in my subnet, many unlabeled so it is hard to identify if it is there.

I know I can do that and I
I know I can do that and I did.but it returns a truckload of address prefixes. I was wondering if the M@ had a specific prefix.

"I was wondering if the M@ had a specific prefix."

"Enter MAC Address or OUI or Vendor Name:"

The MAC is the rest of the characters following.
