Node testing and map
Hi All,

I successfully (at least I think so) uploaded the AREDN firmware into my device (an iNet GL-AR300M16-EXT) and was able to configure everything (I assume correctly) per the documents.  The WAN port is connected to my Internet gateway/router and from a terminal on the LAN port of my AREDN device, I can go pretty much everywhere on the internet, so it appears that I do have WAN connectivity.  However...

After making changes to location and clicking on upload (changes), after which the screen did refresh, while the node appears to be up and running (no other nodes currently in range), I'm still not seeing my node on the map after several hours now.

Is there some router/firewall configuration I need to do? Open some port??

Bottom line, without any other RF nodes nearby, I have no way beyond what I have tested to know if my setup actually is working.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

upload(changes)?
Hi, Robin:

There is no 'upload(changes)' on the setup page on my AR300M16.
There is 'Apply Location Settings' and
'Upload data to AREDN Servers'.

You will have successfully uploaded your node and location to the AREDN Map server
when you can later find your node on the map by clicking on the magnifying glass
and entering the first 5 letters of your callsign.

Sorry, Bad choice of words.
Sorry, Bad choice of words.

I did in fact apply location setting and then the upload data to the AREDN servers.  I did that yesterday and again this morning and a search still shows nothing on the map.

Again, save that I don't have any other nodes I can see at this point, everything else appears to be correct.  I will add however that I have notices a couple of things that may perhaps be related.  I get the find me and the map buttons under optional settings, but when I click either nothing happens (the buttons do seem to cycle when pressed)  Actually, a map screen opens but is completely grey (no map).  Additionally, my status page shows no Mesh Gateway or Mesh node.  Those fields are blank.  Those details are what had me wondering if I needed to open a port on the 300 or perhaps my home router/gateway.

Very puzzling and for the moment, disappointing, given that everything else about the setup went so relatively smooth.

Hi, Robin:
That ain't right. :-(
What firmware are you running?

Did you disable Wi-Fi on the workstation connected to your AR300M ?
I just plugged my AR300M's WAN into my home internet in order to capture how it
is supposted to look.
I am running Nightly 20240123 on mine and here are 2 of my screens; status and setup

Hello Again!
Hello Again!
Well, these are screenshots of my configuration (not sure if they will help).  I still can't determine what is not correct.  Also, I noticed that the 300M device there are 2 green LEDs and one Red, the latter red flashing intermittently (I believe to indicate RF activity?).

Again, if there is anything missing, please let me know, it is much appreciated!

Thank You!

Hi, Robin:
A screenshot of your /status page would show that your have internet connected and
your firmware version.

Looks normal, except
Hi, Robin:

Things look normal, except
with 'no RF links' and 'no active leases',
how did you communicate with your AR300M16 to obtain those images?
Did you view it from your home LAN port via 192.168.1.170?
;-) Baffled.

Hi Chuck!
Hi Chuck!
I agree, everything looks normal! LOL! BTW, I did get your message and configured the tunnel client as per your email.  The system accepted the information, and I enabled the entry and saved it. However, even after a reboot the status of that ddns still shows not connected.

As for how did/am I talking to my AR300M16?

I initially (out of the box) did it per the AREDN instructions for that device, I was able to upload the AREDN firmware and it rebooted as expected.  Since then I am able to connect to it with a local (to the device) network terminal and, with the WAN I can connect from pretty much any desktop on the home network.

I have pretty decent background in networking and this one has me puzzled.  Fortunately and unfortunately, I have a Super-node about 2 miles away, but I doubt I'd be able to hear it with the 300 inside the house on those 'duck' antennas'.  Hence, I have no way of knowing if everything is correct, beyound what I'm seeing on the local screen.

I'm still leaning towards a port issue or something like that.

FWIW, I can look up the address of the ddns you provided from either the 300 (via the WAN) or from any of my LAN devices.  However, when I try to ping it, there is no response.  However, I am thinking that is perhaps by intent.  My point (and of course you know this) is that the address is valid.
In any event, Thank You for all the help so far!  I'll hopefully/eventually figure this out one way or another.

decent background in networking
Hi, Robin:
I was just thinking about CGNAT, but if 'decent background in networking', then you would likely already known.
How about a 'traceroute <hostname>'  (Windows: tracert [address or hostname])
Your in position 16 of 17 in the tunnel clients and #17 has a 'blue cloud', so I think I have enough slots (20) configured.
A 'super-node' should not have RF enabled so your AR300M would not go directly to a super-node.
I recommend a tunnel with your 2 mile away AREDN neighbor.
