Mikrotik AC3
Hello everyone,

I have just taken over the AREDN project an initiative close to my heart to ensure the network runs smoothly in our region.
I need to install a dozen nodes on mountaintops. However, with a MikroTik AC3 router,
the reboot process proceeds normally up to a certain point: all the LEDs light up, and then the device stops responding.
I have to cut the power, wait about 5 seconds, and plug it back in; it then works perfectly until the next reboot.
Do you have a solution to save me from having to climb to the top of this mountain to unplug and replug the power cable, just to restore normal operation?

The other routers on the other mountains reboot automatically.

Thank you for your help in finding a solution.

Have a good day.

Hi Luc,
Hi Luc,
I had a similar issue with our AC3's on 4.26.7.0 - even brand new ones stopped at the first install. We decided to go back to 4.26.1.0 for the new ones, until we see that the next version runs properly.

Hi Hurt,
Hi Hurt,

I’ve been exploring various avenues for the past two days, but without success so far.

I even tried using MikroTik’s Netinstall the process goes smoothly
I use WinBox and check the version (there are no pending updates, so the router is up to date)
but then, after completely reinstalling AREDN, the system unfortunately freezes as soon as I plug the router into the power supply.
The indicator lights stay on continuously.

OK, good idea; I’ll try an older version to see how that goes.

Thanks for the info, Hurt; it’s good to know I’m not the only one dealing with this.

Hi Hurt,
Hi Hurt,

Well, I did the same thing tonight: I rolled back to an earlier version for two of my MikroTik AC3 routers.
Yes, I went back to version 4.26.1.0 and, honestly, it works great.
For a final test, AREDN notified me that an update via the web interface was available; I installed it, but nothing worked afterwards.
The MikroTik router wouldn't reboot; the system got stuck, and all the AC3's LEDs stayed lit.
I've now reverted to version 4.26.1.0 and everything is working properly—including reboots, of course.

This confirms that version 4.26.7.0 is problematic, just as you said, Hurt.

Thanks for the tip; I hadn't thought about rolling back to an earlier version.
I’d been looking for the source of the problem for over a week,
and your tip really helped me out. Thanks!

I don't know what the problem
I don't know what the problem you are having is ... but I have several hAP ac3 devices deployed with 4.26.7.0 in remote locations without direct access and they work fine, they reboot fine.  The thread so far seems to blend issues with rebooting an existing device with firmware installed with rebooting during firmware installation.  So everything is unclear in this thread to me.  I can reboot the remote devices and they come back and eventually show up on my network ... I do not have to power cycle them to reboot them.

If a device is not behaving correctly, there is a process to follow to make a report to github.  You need to share the problem, screen shots if applicable, and the Support Data file.  You had very few replies to your original post because you provided very little information.  You can bring it here or direct to github and report as an issue ...

Also, I strongly advise not using any automated update process to update firmware.  I know they exist but I don't ever do this.  I always download the firmware sysupgrade file to my local computer, and then upload from my computer directly to the device (either direct cable to the LAN or over the AREDN network if remotely).

Good luck ... Ed

Hello,
Hello,

I am encountering a strange issue.
Out of four MikroTik AC3 routers,

there are two that I cannot update to the new version 4.26.7.0

the reboot process gets stuck,

whereas the other two AC3 routers are working perfectly.

I cannot update to the new version 4.26.7.0
Hi, Luc:

What/which procedure are you using to update from 4.26.1.0 to 4.26.7.0 ?

Hello Chuck,
Hello Chuck,

Thank you for replying to this email
it is greatly appreciated.

To avoid errors,
please check this link, which explains my procedure step-by-step.

I currently have 4 MikroTik routers;
only 2 of the 4 are not working,
even though I use the same method for all 4 MikroTik routers.
