iperf results question

I'm new to iperf and wonder if my results are good or should I be expecting more.  :)

This test is between two BaseBox5's .... both operating at 27 dbm at a distance of about 5 km.  One is using an mANT 19S sector antenna and the mobile station is working into a mANT 30.  I've attached a couple screen shots ... iperf is reporting about 75 Mbps but when I look at the mesh status page it shows:  100%  100 %  144.3 TxMbps     ... my question is why is one 2X the other?  Clearly I'm missing something fundamental?

Also ... can some of you with AREDN experience please give me some guidelines  .. i.e.   are these good results ... or should I look for better?

Many thanks for the great support and efforts of the AREDN Development Team!

Julie,  this is a very good
Julie,  this is a very good result.  The 144Mbps 'link' rate is the best you can get in 802.11n with a 20MHz channel width and short guard interval.   In mesh status, it will reduce the value shown by subtracting out the measured packet loss.   You have a near perfect link which is 144.4Mbps for raw bits being transmitted.

The iperf value is the layer 3 data only counts.  iperf does not include the raw bits at the link level, does not include the layer 2 overhead protocol bits.    This may be the highest thoughput value I've seen on 5+km links anywhere, it is quite good.

The channel will also have some time taken away for broadcast data from OLSR, Beacons.  This data is transmitted at 6Mbps (if an 802.11n only set of clients, or could be 1Mbps if 802.11a in use).   The transmitter is not staying at the highest rate all the time and the channel use is "half duplex"

Thank you

Thank you Joe, for your informative post.  It is through this forum that we are gaining much of the knowledge necessary to develop and deploy our local AREDN network here in Oregon.  Now that we are better prepared to test potential sites, I'm looking forward to getting some numbers with the MikroTik LHG5.  :)

Hi Julie, how does the basebox attach to the mANT 19s? I'm looking at going this way for distrubuion.

Thanks
