General thoughts, OS software
After reading several of the messages received, and the answers to questions I have posted, yet another question comes up in my mind.  Some of the AREDN software states that the version being downloaded or installed has a current version of the Linux kernel as part of the software program.  Another area of the software information page states that Windows 7 or higher is required to install/run some versions of the software.  The question becomes; can the AREDN software be used on a Linux based computer or on a computer that uses a variant of Linux?
Thank you for the time and work devoted to this project.

While it's technically
While it's technically possible to take a desktop or workstation linux OS and configure it the same as an AREDN mesh node, there's limited value to spend the effort to do so and becomes a higher support burden for everyone to use given the numerous linux flavors available.   What has been done is to generate an x86 image that is created just like an image on a mips embedded cpu for ubiquiti, mikrotik, and tplink -- compiling all of linux and standard platform.    This x86 image can be run on many VM environments including Docker.   There have been x86 builds for testing and exploration of tunnel servers that can scale to a high volume of users.
