Easy Question - What does the (mid) signify

Easy Question - What does the (mid) signify
I have setup a tunnel client for another ham with a linksys router.  I have completed the required fix in the hotplug folder.  I see a direct connection to my server node, but when looking at my server through the linksys tunnel client node it shows MID10.KJ4PVX-SERVER  ...   What does the mid10 signify?  I've looked a good bit, so I promise I'm not being lazy.

MID = multiple interface

MID = multiple interface declaration.
Essentially, It means that node has multiple network interfaces using OLSR.
Like: WLAN0 (wireless) and TUN50 (tunnel)

At least, that's my understanding...

Thank you.  So it's not bad or anything.  I thought it might be related to how many nodes were between that one and the target.  Since it's a VPN connection, that's why I was confused.  Thank you.

Hank,  The BBHN older releases have bugs (or at least confusion when referencing the hostname of a mesh node).   A mesh node has many network interfaces (wifi, lan, dtdlink, tunnel-1, tunnel-2, etc.).    Each of these interfaces has an IP address and a hostname.   

In AREDN, we have cleaned all this confusion up so that mesh status shows only a single simple name.   In BBHN, you will see this confusion with names like "dtdlink.name.local.mesh",  "mid10.name.local.mesh", and more--all for the same mesh node.  

For only ~$40, and I'm sure you already know, there's a solution to resolve many of the linksys-BBHN shortcomings :)  ... AirRouter with AREDN 3.16.1.0.

Thx brother, I appreciate the response and agree.  I'm using my old linksys devices to give out others interested in mesh networking so they can get a sense of how it all works.  The linksys with tnl client is perfect for that because they can just plug it in to the internet, plug their computer, and boom they're ready to go.  I am confident that they will figure quickly, like I did, that the newer hardware is much more capable and more importantly, less time consuming to get working correctly.
