connecting to the node in Windows 7 with the browser

Things are getting hot up in Northern California and the various groups are starting to pull it together so I am dusting off the equipment.

I have a dual booted laptop windows 7 and ubuntu.  I can connect to the node in ubuntu but I cannot connect in windows.  I can ping the node and I can see the node in ipconfig.  Do I need a certificate?  Do I need to open up the firewall?  I opened up 8080 in and out in tcp to no avail.  I know this worked years ago.  things load very slowly in Ubuntu.  Once in things ar OK. The ping is TTL 128 on 100 feet of cat 5 in windows, nothing lost

I am sure in time I will figure it out but I thought I would throw it out there.  The node is flashed and up to date.  Thanks for the fantastic work you all have done.  I am happy to see MDARC finally fire things up a bit.

No, you should not need to
No, you should not need to open a firewall port unless you have set it up extremely restrictive.  My first guess is that when booting in Windows, the computer is not getting a DHCP IP address from the AREDN node.  However your statement about ipconfig largely rules that out.  Not that it should make a difference, but what browser are you using?  Also compare the IP that you get when you boot into ubuntu vs the IP that you get when you boot into windows.  They should be in teh same subnet - most likely the same IP.  Are you connecting to the AREDN node via a Wifi connection (for node devices that can support a standard WiFi in addition to AREDN operation), or are you using a wired connection.  Last is are you also connected to your "normal" home LAN?  And if yes, via what (i.e. WiFi vs wired)?

Win 7 laptop issue
I put a WIN 10 laptop on the node and it was like lightning.  It hit the node instantly.  In the windows 7 Ubuntu dual booted laptop is very slow connecting in Ubuntu and not at all in windows 7.  Not sure  what the deal is with that Dell E5420.  It does not do that on the home network or anywhere else for that matter.

I have a couple of nodes I have not updated yet.  I will try it on those one before I update it.
