AREDN Demo and Presentation for Local Clubs
Last night (Sept 8 2016) I did a short presentation to introduce members and guests of the North Baldwin Amateur Radio Club to AREDN.  I also brought two nodes and set them up for a demo with a NSM2 and VoIP phone on one node and a WRT-54G with PC, VoIP phone, and IP camera on the other node.  I was able to demonstrate live video streaming and VoIP phone comms across the mesh.

The meeting was well attended with one of our county EMA officials also in attendance.  I am hoping that my "AREDN Road Show" will inspire some of the ham members and get them interested in putting up their own AREDN nodes.

I will be doing the same presentation for the South Baldwin Amateur Radio Club on Thursday, Sept 15th at the county EOC.  Also, a similar presentation and demo will be shown to the Baldwin County E911 Board of Directors at their meeting on Sept 28th.

If there are any other clubs or organizations in Mobile, Baldwin, or nearby counties that would like to learn more about AREDN, please let me know.  I would be happy to come and do this presentation for your group.  My goal is to educate, generate interest, and make the case that AREDN could be a great resource for emergency communications in the future.  We need to deploy nodes everywhere and create a robust mesh all across Alabama.

Thank you!
Thank you Ron for promoting the practical uses of an AREDN network. If there is anything we can do to support your efforts, please let me know.

Having fun with AREDN
Hi Randy,

Thanks for the offer of support.  I think you guys have done a wonderful job just by hosting this website.  Without it, I might not have been able to get my first two nodes up and running.  There is a wealth of information here and very knowledgeable hams willing to share what they know.  That's what this hobby is all about!

We are making good progress in the Mobile and Baldwin County region of south Alabama.  After my last club presentation, one of the hams, who happens to sit on the Board of Directors at a local hospital, has gotten us permission to put some nodes up on local hospitals that already host some amateur radio antennas.  These nodes won't be super high but will go a long way toward establishing some mesh infrastructure that might encourage other local hams to try AREDN.  After all, the mesh is not much fun if you have nothing to connect to, HI.

I'm making more presentations for local clubs and the word is spreading.  So, I'm hopeful that the interest will grow quickly.

Thanks again for the well wishes!
