hAP ac lite wifi dropping out
Hello,

hAP ac lite(s) running 3.25.5.1 ...

The wifi drops out now and then ... and did not before.  We had problems earlier with Watchdog killing our routing (both hardware and wireless) so they are turned off.  Anyone else having problems with hAP ac lite wifi dropping out now and then?

AC Lite and memory
Ed, the AC Lite is a 64MB device.  That used to be enough but we've recently added Babel to the mixture which uses some RAM   If your ac Lite is a tunnel server that uses more RAM.  What's worse, the wireless radio daemon is a memory hog, and can cause OOM (out of memory) issues

The long term solution is probably to upgrade to an AC3, but if you can turn off the radios, or drop some tunnels that may help.

Hi Orv,
Hi Orv,

Three units dropping wifi.  First one is a tunnel client with no server.  It does have a lot of local devices and services.  It was on 2gh wifi and I changed it to 5ghz to see if it behaves better there.

Second one has a lot of local devices and services, is a tunnel client and I think serves a tunnel to one other location.  It's not my device but that's what I know.

Third device is in a go kit with almost no other uses than providing wifi.  It dropped out on my during a field test several times so I had to hard cable to a port to be able to continue using it.  That one tipped the balance for me, there should not be any serious load on that device.

Load vs low memory
Ed, when one of your lites is misbehaving, check both the load and free RAM.  This is a screenshot of a hAP ac lite doing nothing but being a DtD node.
If your load is higher than about 1, or free RAM is getting low, those may be the source of your issues.

Hope this helps.

hAP ac lite Stability

I have a hAP ac lite node with three active tunnel servers, four active tunnel clients, and no active RFs.  It is running NB 20250627 (not Babel-only ...yet).  Every 3-4 days, one or more of the tunnels will go wonky (shows 50% error rate or some such), and a reboot will fix it.  I don't know if it would fix itself if I were more patient.

We are about ready to encourage our mesh island members to go full Babel.  Just solved issue with Supernode connections that prevented Babel nodes from appearing on AREDN World Map.  Maybe the next stable release will be good time for that.

Between 8 and 9 Meg free
Between 8 and 9 Meg free memory, but the load averages are higher than I remember ... It must be suffering under the OLSR plus Babel thing.

There are a LOT of services right now on that one node.  As a temporary measure can I add another hAP lite dtd using port 5 to port 5 and have them share the LAN load?

Two AC Lites
Yes, splitting the load between two boxes should work.   Report results!  :-)
