Equipment Recommendation for First Time Setup

Hi, I wanted to ask for recommendations for my first node setup. I live in Concord, CA . My home is 6.69 miles away in straight line NZ6J-Kregor-Peak, 2.85 miles KI6LNB-NSM5, and 3.67 miles KN6QOX-PHill I have a mast on top of my garage roof that I like to install the 5.8 GHz Node, wanted to get advice I know there is  5.8 GHz chip shortage for Ubiquiti NanoStation M5 or Ubiquiti Rocket M5, I was looking at MikroTik RBSXTsq5HPnD or the RBLHG-5nD also my Mom and Dad home is  only 0.75 Miles away and like to have Node setup there also

Thanks

Getting set up

You're certainly close enough to any of those nodes. But make sure you have true LOS (line of sight) to the one you choose.  No trees allowed!

As far as equipment goes, the  Mikrotik SXTsq-5nD or SXTsq-5HPnD are good choices. They have a faster CPU (600 MHz vs 400 MHz for the NSM5) and a narrower beamwidth (23 degrees compared to 43 degrees for the NSM5).

If you decide to buy one of those and you need significant elevation (up & down) to aim at your destination, you might want to buy the optional mast mount for it.  It's the MikroTik QuickMOUNT X and it's cheap.

And for seamless integration of the AREDN network into your shack network, seriously consider buying the Mikrotik hAP AC Lite (RB952Ui-5ac2nD).  With AREDN code loaded it makes life much less complicated when getting started!
