Is it possible to add a remote phone to a PBX if it is connected via mesh and has its own dhcp node?

Phones are not 'added' to a PBX.
Extensions are added to a PBX.
Phones are registered to a PBX with an extension and authentication.
A phone can register with a PBX if a network will provide a connection between the phone and the PBX.
'via mesh':
Mesh is a topology.
https://www.comparitech.com/net-admin/network-topologies-advantages-disadvantages/
What are the types of network topology?

  •     Bus Topology
  •     Ring Topology
  •     Star Topology
  •     Tree Topology
  •     Mesh Topology
  •     Hybrid Topology

It does not matter what topology is used in a network as long as the devices and services are connected.
If the phone can route data to the PBX and the PBX can route data to the phone,
the phone can register as an extension on the PBX.

So, how does AREDN (firmware/devices) play a part in your configuration.

registering remote phone
I am just wanting to know if I can configure the software in the GXP phone, the AR300 mesh node, or the Bullet mesh node, so that the
phone will register with the PBX. See the diagram. Everything else is working fine.

In my opinion, in order to simplify all your DHCP and routing in your diagram, the "TP-Link wireless router" really needs to be a mesh node (like a Mikrotik hAP AC Lite or similar).
That way, the hapaclite mesh node is handing out all your DHCP address in the proper fashion to the PBX, PC, analog phone converters, cell phones, etc.
and understands all the appropriate routing.  You will need to enable the Access Point mode on this node so that cell phones and other Wifi based devices can connect.   You will also need to increase the number of DHCP addresses available to 13 or 29 hosts in order to accommodate all the devices.

Once that is done, then you simply configure your GXP ip phones to register themselves to your PBX's mesh IP address.  (ie. 10.x.x.x)

Thanks!
I tried something similar to that by turning of dhcp in the tp-link, and turning on dhcp in the bullet. Then the remote phone could register, but
the cellphones became intermittently unreliable with respect to registration. Since the cell phones are more important than the remote phone
in my application, I went back to the config shown in the diagram.  If I get a HAP is it likely to have the same problem?

Amazingly I found I have one of these Mikrotik boxes.
It recognizes all the corded phones, but not the cell phones.

If you have a MikroTik RouterBOARD 952Ui-5ac2nD:

Is the Wi-Fi radio in your old cellphones 2 GHz and/or 5 GHz?

Hi, Bob:

  1. Upgrade the firmware.
  2. Reconfigure the 2 GHz Radio to be an Access Point.

Later  and optionally, you can configure the 5 GHz radio as a Wi-Fi Client.

Had to restart.
Now when I fill in the callsign and password and hit save changes, it goes to "This site cannot be reached" and nothing is changed.
How can I get around this?

This is usually a browser issue.  Clear the cache and try again, otherwise try another browser.

+1 with k1ky.
This is a browser response.
It does not mean "nothing is changed".
Chances are that the node was changed, but your browser is showing an old/cached web page.

Use the documentation here and use the TFTP method to install the current stable firmware.

I held the reset button for more than 5 seconds.
I did that because I could not get it to recognize the password.I tried to install the latest firmware using the standard method ,
and it said "Firmware cannot be updated". "Upload file is not recognized" . I checked it and dowloaded it twice to be sure I got the
firmware.  I have never used the tftp method. I will investigate.

Thanks!

Scroll down the page a little:

PXE Boot: Windows Procedure

You will need to install and configure a PXE Server on your Windows computer.
The example below uses Tiny PXE which can be downloaded from erwan.labalec.fr.
There may be other alternative Windows programs that accomplish the same goal, such as ERPXE or Serva.

I uploaded the same version firmware from the "old firmware" aredn file.
The password problem is solved.
But still cannot upload current version.
After more fiddling, I sem to have really fouled it up. Now the PC alternates between "no connection" and "identifying".
No connection at all. The reset button now does nothing.  No hope.

"But still cannot upload current version. After more fiddling,"

After you attach a working PC:
Upload aredn-3.22.8.0-ar71xx-mikrotik-rb-nor-flash-16M-ac-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin using the Administration page.
If the node complains about the version, upload it anyway.

  • Try the '5 second reset'
  • Try the '15 second reset'
  • re-flash the firmware using the TFTP method
  • Fix the PC.
  • Use a different and working PC.
  • Ask for help from local AREDN firmware users.

You are unfortunately (for me) right. I assumed that the Lite and the AC3 were the same except for the external antennas.
Alas they have many things the same, but also some crucial ones different.  I canceled the order for the ac3.

Hi, Bob:

Since the "15 sec reset does nothing", you man need to re-flash the firmware using the TFTP method.

https://arednmesh.readthedocs.io/en/latest/arednGettingStarted/installin...
Obtain the .elf and 'sysupgrade' firmware files.
When you get as far as "PXE Boot: Linux Procedure", scroll down to the "PXE Boot: Windows Procedure", then continue.

Good and Bad News
My guru friend Russ AF8RJ. came over yesterday and he was able to resurrect my Mikrotik lite.
It now behaves normally except in one crucial aspect.
Mesh Status shows no other nodes even though there are several in operation here.
Mesh Status on a different node does not show the Mikrotik.

So the radio is silent.

I compared all the settings between the 2 nodes and they are essentially the same.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi, Bob:

I suggest, if want assistance with the settings on these 2 nodes, that you share the settings.
For starters, the 2 radios must share the same SSID, Channel, and Bandwidth.
"there are several in operation here"
Maybe share the settings on all the nodes around there.
"Ch: -2
SSID: AREDN-5-v3"
Be advised that Mikrotiks at 5 MHz bandwidth do not work well with other manufacturers.

I changed the BW of the Miktotik and one other node to 10 MHz.
Now they communicate fine.
But this is a very serious problem, since 5 MHz is very commonly used.
AREDN should warn people about this in the list of supported nodes.
I have wasted time and money with this Mikrotik that is now useless to me.
Thank you for your support.

Hi, Bob:

Perhaps common in your area.
Only 5 of our network's 60 RF connected nodes use 5 MHz bandwidth.
+9 more are APs or Clients at 20 MHz bandwidth.
+8 more have no radio definition.
Ergo, it is uncommon in our area.

Only nodes that link via RF need to be on the same bandwidth.
I thought your portable telephone system was a closed system.

Hi Chuck -

All our nodes here are 5 MHz.

Is this a problem with the AREDN firmware or it is also with the original firmware?

Thanks for all your help!

The 5Mhz bandwidth issue appears to be a hardware issue with *SOME* (not all) hAP AC Lite devices.

do not have to waste the time and money that I have.

All your outdoor nodes there are 5 MHz bandwidth.

Hi, Bob:

Now that you have an indoor device that can DtD link with your outdoor device,
there may be no need to also use only 5 MHz bandwidth indoors.

5MHz Bandwidth
We have found very few advantages to using 5MHz Bandwidth in favor of 10MHz for our "outdoor" long-haul links.  I believe we have only one external link running 5MHz bandwidth on the 2.4GHz band.  All else run 10MHz mostly for the outdoor links in the 3.4 and 5GHz band segments.   I'm using 20MHz for most of our Indoor links due to the throughput advantage.  I can't imagine running a HAP for any "distant" work as that is best accomplished by attaching an appropriate "outdoor" device via DTD.

One other note is that the HAP can get flakey on lower bandwidths (10MHz MESH) if it isn't run at 24 volts as compared to 12 volts.
