Tunnel Package installation failed - Is something broken?
I just did a hard reset on my home node due to some issues I've been trying to solve - I'm trying to re-establish my tunnel connections, but I'm not able to install the tunnel software package. Any idea what could be causing this? I've tried it from 2 different hAP devices, neither seems able to download the tunnel software right now.

Were you on an older Nightly Build?
I'm not sure which version you were running, and I'm assuming you did a hard reset by clicking the "Reset to Firstboot" button. But if you were running an older Nightly Build version then it was probably obsoleted by a more recent nightly build. The best practice is to upgrade your node to the latest nightly build and then install packages. Here is a link to the info about Nightly Builds in the online AREDN docucmentation. https://arednmesh.readthedocs.io/en/latest/arednGettingStarted/downloadi...

Tunnel Package installation failed - Is something broken?

William/Jim(erw):
Onto which version of ARDEN firmware are you trying to install the tunnel service.
(Jim: "#38" 2020-12-31 ?)
It there was an error message, please share.
(+1 James K6CCC: Does the hAP have internet access?)

I just upgraded my hAP to NB 38 and loaded the tunnel service.
The upgrade and tunnel install procedure was flawless.
I am tunneled home.

hAP AC Lite No Tunnel
Yes, the hAP does have internet access and the firmware is the latest nightly build.  The only error message that I am getting says tunnel cannot be installed.  I have not tried this yet since this is a part of a "Go Box" setup that I am currently using while away from home, but I will isolate the node and eliminate anything else connected and then try the tunnel installation again.  I have just never ran into this before aside from forgetting to delete ancillary packages like Mesh Chat first.  Nothing I have tried so far works.  The node refuses to add the tunnel service either client or server.  Obviously, I am not holding my mouth right.....  Thanks, Jim

Jim(ERW):

Which latest Nightly Build? ;-)

Does your error look like this:
ERROR:
Package installation failed!

Tunnel software needs to be installed.
?

On the 'Administration' page, if you click 'Refresh', do you get this response:

Downloading
http://downloads.arednmesh.org/snapshots/trunk/targets/ar71xx/mikrotik/packages/
Packages.gz
Updated list of available packages in /var/opkg-lists/aredn_core

I was 'away from home' this morning when "I just upgraded my hAP to NB 38 and loaded the tunnel service."

Update:
Just got off HamshackHotline with Jim/W8ERW.
He is using NB 38 and his error message is unfamiliar to me.
We are now suspecting a routing issue with his 'Go-Box' router/HotSpot.

Specify version numbers please
Strong suggestion in general when referring to either nightly or production software, Don't refer to it as "the latest nightly", but specify the version.  I have helped several people who were using what they thought was the latest nightly, and as it turned out that there had been another released so they really were not on the latest.
And in the dumb question department, are you depending on the mesh for internet, or do you have a LAN cable plugged into port 1 that has internet available?

Version Numbers
I declined to go look at and try to remember the exact version number as it appears the version has not changed since 12-31 and my attempt to install the tunnel software immediately followed installation of the latest version.  The node is also directly connected to my router for internet access.  Altho9ugh I certainly agree from reading the appropriate instructional pieces, either of these issues would prove problematic, I believe I have verified conforming to the correct and advised procedures. All appears to be working correctly with the exception of tunnel access.  Rather than labor the issue further, I will once I am no longer using the setup that I have while out of town, separate the node from the "Go Box" and have another look while insuring there are no other outside influences present.  Restating, I've done the upgrade several time now without issue until this time.  Hopefully by the end of the week, I will have been successful and perhaps have some answers.  Thanks,  Jim

Mine was hard wired to my
Mine was hard wired to my router for internet access. I ended up doing a firstboot reset and installing the latest stable release. I look forward to the next stable release integrating some of the nice features being developed in the nightly builds, but I'm inclined to stick with the stable releases for my equipment that I'm actively using.
