Odd Behavior
O.k. so when I got home from work last night I did some testing to get tunneling to work.  many attempts failed but I was finally able to get it to work.  I thought reliably.  But this was at home.  So that was probably part of it.  So I left things as is in hopes that while at work tonight I'd be able to log in and connect.  no joy.

So after reading on here I did a telnet session and I got a positive response so the system is in fact showing itself.  Good sign.  But when I try to connect nothing.  So i took it upon myself and do a support package and I then thought I would read through it.  Address not resolving.  Odd, when I use hpbbs.dyndns.org I can connect to both Winserver BBS and my Synchronet BBS both http and telnet.  no issues.  Every time.  If i telnet into hpbbs.dyndns.org via 5525 I get the Mikrotik AP.  No issues.  But in the tunnel client I use hpbbs.dyndns.org as the server address and I am apparently getting the failed DNS.  Just can't see that on the outside.

So I've attached the support file just in case.  I was really hoping I could connect here at work via my USB150.

And just to answer the question....  Nightly build from 4/16/2020 on all of the devices I currenatly am running (4 total).  oh....  At work I am currently connected to the internet via WIFI.  Which I did at home also FYI using hpbbs.dyndns.org.

Any other info let me know....

Which Odd Behavior?

It seems, at first, as though you are trying to set up a tunnel.
Perhaps, trying to set up tunneling home from away using a USB150 at the 'away' end.
At home were you able to tunnel to the home device/node from the USB150 (in a laptop?)?
Later, in the first paragraph, you write about a 'log in and connect'.
Of what server are trying to access via a 'log in and connect'?

Did you (NAT/port-forward) port 5525 in your home router to you home AREDN node device?

Did you try IP addresses instead of dynamic-domain-names?

I see in the 'data.txt' file in your 'support-data' that there are multiple
"Mon Apr 20 03:41:14 2020 daemon.err vtund[954]: Can't resolv server address: hpbbs.dyndns.org".
So, using a dynamic-dns-service to store your home IP address is not going to work well if you cannot resolve the dynamic domain name (at work). :-|

OBTW, are you connecting your USB150 to the internet at work?
Or are you connecting to the internet at work via your laptop's internal Wi-Fi device.

Is your work DHCP server issuing 10.x.x.x LAN addresses?

Sorry.  While I'm typing it
Sorry.  While I'm typing it seems logical and well written but it's a brain dump so I am clearly everywhere in my post.  My apologies.

So Yes, I was experimenting with tunneling.  Was going to set things up so while I"m away I can still get into the network and test things etc.  Just trying out the feature to learn more about it.

The Microuter GL-USB150 is in fact what I am using on my laptop.  I am connect to the internet at work via internal WIFI device on the laptop.  We do not have cabled connections there.

Ugh..  Now that I think about it I think they do issue 10.x.x.x LAN addresses.  I will have to confirm tonight when I am there.

Port forwarding is in fact enable.

I did try an actual IP address.  Same result.  And the log in and connect part was based on reading in the forums.  I can telnet to my dynamic address on port 5525 and get a response from the tunnel server.  Just like the post said. So I know it is running and can be seen and that is while at work.

I guess I am not ready for this technology just yet.  Still learning.  Or trying to.  Sorry for the issues.

hpbbs.dyndns.org tunnel server is OK

For whatever it's worth, hpbbs.dyndns.org does resolve to 74.70.11.37
And when I try to open a Telnet session to hpbbs.dyndns.org port 5525, I am getting this response:  VTN server ver 3.X 04/16/2020
Sounds like you have everything set up correctly at home.  Now you can concentrate on getting the USB150 to connect to it.
BTW, I use a USB150 from remote locations to connect to a tunnel server at home, so I should be able to help.
As Chuck said, how are connecting the USB to the a network and the PC?

Yes that is the response I
Yes that is the response I get also when I try to manually connect to the Tunnel Server.

The USB I plug into a USB port on the computer as it's the only way to power it up at the moment while at work.  So my laptop connects to the WIFI via my laptop internal WIFI adapter.

Using a 10.x.x.x network at the office

Using the 10.x.x.x network at the office can be tricky.  Here is a forum post by Ken KE2N that explains a workaround:

Thank you.  I have seen that
Thank you.  I have seen that one before actually.  I'll re-read it a little more closely now since it may in fact pertain to me.  Once I'm at work tonight I'll check to see how their DHCP with Verizon works and also the guest WIFI connection at the hospital we post at works too.  This just might not be a thing for me.

The description in the link
The description in the link that KC0EUW is far more complex than it needs to be for most purposes - including your purpose.  For what you are trying to do, you don't need any port forwarding set up on either the work network, or on your "extra" router.  All your traffic will be outbound from the USB150 through the "extra" router into the work network, and through their routers to the internet.  Unless work is blocking normal outboud traffic, nothing special should be required.
One issue you could run into is if work would allow you to connect some other non-approved device (your "extra" router in this case).  The work around for that would be use a WiFi hot spot that your USB150 connect to instead of trying to use the work WiFi.  This is what I do.

Awesome to know!  Thank you.
Awesome to know!  Thank you.  I will play around with this stuff over time I'll get it figured out I hope.  If not no big deal.  I'm doing all of this more for me than anything right now.  Lots of down time when not working so I can.

Thanks for your help.  I'll keep plugging away.  My new Raspberry Pi comes in today and I'll have two used Grandstream GPX-2160's I found on Ebay coming in this weekend so I can try my hand at VOIP and PBX's again (Used to maintain an old Nortel system where I worked).  Next will be cameras. lol

I cant use the usb150 to
I cant use the usb150 to connect via wifi for a meshvpn on Campus wifi because ports are not bidirectionally exclusive to clients...

The only way to connect the
The only way to connect the USB150 is via a RF connection - either Mesh or WiFi connection.  The USB150 will then provide mesh access to the connected computer.  The USB150 does not get it's internet connection via the computer.
I'm not sure what you mean by "ports are not bidirectionally exclusive to clients".

Huh....  USB150 doesn't get
Huh....  USB150 doesn't get it's internet from the computer.  Well my mesh is connected to interner via a WAN connection so this might explain why at home I'm getting tunneling to work.

So by that statement you made that is what I am doing wrong.  That is why I'm not connecting via tunnel.  But yet running programs on my computer to check connections work.

So I guess now the question begs to be asked..  How do we fix that?  I was under the impression the USB150 would pull from the laptop.

USB150 doesn't get it's internet from the computer. Huh!

All AREDN flashed devices can
be a node or
be a Wi-Fi AP or
be a Wi-Fi client.

At your work, I would assume that your USB150 would be set up as a Wi-Fi client connecting to your work's Wi-Fi AP.
I suggest that you disable your laptop's internal Wi-Fi device in this scenario.

Thank you Chuck.  That is good info. to know!  But as a WIFI AP / Client it is not Part 15 but rather part 97 I'm assuming correct?

your computer is a LAN port
your computer is a LAN port connection on the USB150 (not a DTD or WAN connection)

USB150 tunnel requires WAN wifi client enabled

As Darryl mentioned, your laptop is a dhcp client on the USB150's LAN. In order to use the USB150 as a tunnel client it needs a WAN connection, which you can enable by selecting the WAN WiFi Client section on your USB150's Setup display (screenshot).

Two solutions
Your solution would be to run with the USB150 WiFi connected as a client on a Cellular hotspot, or to have a WiFi router that is connected to your work network on it's WAN port and providing a local WiFi network that your USB150 connects to.  This would also get around the problem with your work network using a 10.x.x.x network.

Client

Laptop > USB150 > Work Wi-Fi* > Internet > Tunnel Server

*Work Wi-Fi, or your phone's AP Hotspot.  Note that the USB150 doesn't support WPA-2 Enterprise or proxies upstream. Try the company's Guest SSID if there is one.

Turn OFF "Mesh RF" and this will enable the "WAN Wifi Client" option.

OMG Thank you!
I am sorry your name escapes me right now but that is what I needed!  I could not find any reference to that anywhere else!  I will copy and paste this info. for later use because I am sure I will forget it.  I will leave this USB150 setup like this for now.

I am tunneled into my home mesh now.  This is awesome!  I can see / use the Synchronet BBS there now and view the apache web pages on that server and now see my RaspPBX that I installed today (waiting for my phones to come now lol).

Thank you very much.  I appreciate this little tid bit of info you supplied.

Online docs describe this

Online docs describe this feature here: https://arednmesh.readthedocs.io/en/latest/arednGettingStarted/advanced_config.html#wan-column
I'll look it over and see whether it can be clarified even more, specifically thinking about the use case with a USB150.  Thanks very much!

My apologies and thanks
Well I can honestly say I did not see that section.  Apparently I must have either skipped over it or bypassed it as I thought it did not pertain.  So my apologies for that one.  i'm not sure I would have figured it all out though but hard to day.  I spent more time in the forums than that document though so that would account for my lack of seeing it I guess.  Again, my apologies.

Thanks Ian!!!
Yes that post of his did in fact get me set correctly.  I was connected in about 60 seconds after those changes and a reboot.

I knew there was something more to it.  While I realize I have much to learn here with this hardware / software I was able to see my hardware at home with the tests I was running.  That is why I posted information in here because this could very well help others too.
