AREDN Network IP address range

My apologies if this information is already available elsewhere on the site.  May someone please tell me the possible IP address range for an AREDN network?

I am setting up a NTP timeserver on our mesh network using the new NW Digital DRAWS and need to configure a .conf file with the following information:

Assuming you are connected to a LAN and want to have other systems see and/or poll for time, you can add the following (Example uses a LAN with addresses in the range 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.255)

broadcast 30 192.168.1.255
allow 192.168.1.0/24

AREDN may consume the entire
AREDN may consume the entire 10.0.0.0 network.

Broadcast address for AREDN

So to be clear.  If my local node is supporting DRAWS and is running in Host Direct such as 10.xx.xx.150/28 the broadcast address would be 10.255.255.255 such that my settings would be:

broadcast 30 10.255.255.255
allow 10.0.0.0/8


Does this seem correct?  I ask because I'm unclear as to how broadcast works in Host Direct mode.  :)

Two ideas involved:

1) The address space for the mesh network is 10.x.x.x.  You do want to allow all nodes across the mesh to access this service, thus "allow 10.0.0.0/8" is correct.  
2) Broadcasts do not route through a mesh node, there is no broadcast definition that reaches all devices on the mesh.  10.255.255.255 broadcast is not correct.   However, each LAN has it's own subnet or network definition to use for broadcasts to reach these LAN devices, where broadcasts can reach.  

For a 13 IP LAN address allocation, with a network of, e.g. 10.84.80.57/28, this has a broadcast address of 10.84.80.63 and a netmask of 255.255.255.240.     Use the link above to specify a LAN network to see the IP address range -- the last IP address in the range is the broadcast address for this LAN subnet-network to use).

1 address:   10.84.80.57/30 =  start address 10.84.80.56  end/broadcast 10.84.80.59
5 address:    10.84.80.57/29 = start address 10.84.80.56  end/broadcast 10.84.80.63
13 address:   10.84.80.57/28 = start address 10.84.80.48  end/broadcast 10.84.80.63
29 address:   10.84.80.57/27 = start address 10.84.80.32  end/broadcast 10.84.80.63

I'd like to connect my DRAWS to AREDN
AC0WN,
I've got a DRAWS that I intend to connect to 2 Yaesu FT-1500M's. One for VHF Packet Winlink Gateway, One for an APRS Gateway. I know it's brand new, but I asked the guys at NW Digital Radio before buying it and they assure me it'll do both. I intend to connect these 2 Gateways into our Northern Virginia AREDN network, but I haven't really figured it out yet. The Winlink will be easier than the APRS, just because of what I want to do with the APRS, but it'll be interesting.

DRAWS & AREDN

K9CQB,

DRAWS is an excellent choice for your project, and I'm sure you will be happy with it.  The workstation comes pre-configured with AX-25 and Direwolf.  Direwolf provides two independent packet channels and a APRS I-gate.  The unit comes with rmsgw but you might wish to consider pilinbpq as well depending on how complex your gateway system becomes.  If you bump into any problems please contact me directly and I'll do my best to assist.  :)

Winlink and APRS Easy
Both Winlink and APRS are a natural for connecting to AREDN networks.  For Winlink you will use the IP addy of the computer that is running the Winlink programs.  For APRS you have many options, best of which is the WX3IN1+ made by Microsat - it is truly an all-in-one box packed with features at a very reasonable price around the $160.00 mark.  Otherwise you have configure and interface a RPi to do the job with a little elbow grease and gray matter applied.
