Social Media sites and AREDN
There is an AREDN forum on Facebook and it's reasonably active. But many hams (and people in general) are increasingly suspicious of Facebook, given all the bad publicity it's gotten with respect to user privacy (or more correctly, lack of it).

There were a number of very active ham radio groups on Google Plus, but with its demise many there migrated to MeWe (   I've been checking it out and it seems to be a viable alternative.  Their Privacy Bill of Rights states:
  • You own your personal information & content. It is explicitly not ours.
  • You will never receive a targeted advertisement or 3rd party content based on what you do or say online. We think that's creepy.
  • You see every post in timeline order from your friends, family & groups. We do not manipulate, filter, or change the order of your content or what you see.
  • Permissions & privacy are your rights. You control them.
  • You control who can access your content.
  • You control what, if anything, others can see in member searches.
  • Your privacy means we do not share your personal information with anyone.
  • Your emojis are for you and your friends. We do not monitor or mine your data.
  • Your face is your business. We do not use facial recognition technology.
  • You have the right to delete your account and take your content with you at any time.
The ham radio groups over there are growing daily.   Darryl K5DLQ was kind enough to establish an AREDN group for us over there.   There's only a few of us there now, but feel free to check it out.  Add content there if you like.

Why have AREDN social media sites?
Can someone explain why we need AREDN social media sites like Facebook, Mewe. Twitter, Instagram, etc. other than pointing people to If there is an issue that newcomers or experienced meshes want to inform or ask the AREDN community, isn't the AREDN Forum the best place for those conversations?

A lot more people find us on
A lot more people find us on Facebook/Twitter/etc come directly to the forums (initially)..  We usually point those social users to for detailed discussions.
