San Fernando Valley coverage
FINALLY we have some mesh presence in the SFV.  This morning, Paul WD6EBY, Mike K6MJU, Cliff KK6QMS and I went to Verdugo Peak and installed a Rocket M2 (2.4 GHz) with 120 degree sector antenna.  (See attached photos)

It's pointed due west, with 3 1/2 degrees downtilt.  It should see everything in the valley well, with the exception of an area due west of it and extending maybe halfway across the valley; that area may be slightly shielded.

If you're in the Valley, point your nodes at 34.220175, -118.289615.

SSID:  BroadbandHamnet
Channel:  -2
Bandwidth 10 MHz.

For the moment it's standalone, but very shortly it should be linked into the Ventura County backbone, which stretches west to Sulphur Mountain.

Some time later (late July or early August) that backbone will be extended east to Mt. Disappointment, then linked down to the nodes at JPL (which themselves are linked down into Orange County.)

Connections from Mt. Disappointment
Great job Orv!

I just double-checked with Google Earth and it looks like connections down to JPL from Mt. Disappointment will be marginal (or not work) because of an interfering ridge line between the peak and JPL.   So we will have to figure out something else, perhaps a direct link from Mt. Disappointment to Pleasants Peak?    I believe that Mt. Disappointment is not in the beam width of the 3GHz node pointing from PP to JPL, so some additional node will probably be needed.   You may want to brainstorm with Joe about possibilities.   We would like to connect up to you and then on to Ventura county!

Link calcs

Jonathan, our link calculations show it might be doable, depending on where we are on Mt. D.  We'll get those exact coordinates this week and see what they say.  Fingers crossed...

Verdugo Pk

I am new to HamMesh and was wondering if the 2.4Ghz site is operational. I am on the other side of the Burbank Airport and have a clear line of site
to Verdugo Pk. I estimate the distance to be about 7 miles from me. Could I connect to it with a Nanostation M2 or should I get a Bullet M2. I have a cheap 2.4 Ghz Yagi ant I could use with the Bullet. I do not see the Verdugo Pk site on the AREDN Map.

San Fernando Valley coverage
Mike, you can find a list of high-level nodes covering the SFV here.   For new users, we don't recommend starting with 2 GHz, but rather 5 GHz.  The 5 GHZ sector antenna on Verdugo Peak is pointed WSW and it looks like you're right in line with it.   However, you're in so close you might be shadowed (the site is set back from the western edge of the hill by several hundred yards).  I'll check the coverage maps and get back to you.

Verdugo Peak coverage
Mike, I had Paul WD6EBY do coverage maps of the current Verdguo Peak nodes.  Here's what he said:

The yellow is the 2G WNW sector and the pink is the 5G WSW sector.
The address 7817 Vineland is at the cusp of coverage which appears to be a multi story apartment building.
These plots are derived with an assumed building height of 45 feet.
If a connection from this location tried, I would recommend a PB5-300 or in this case maybe even a PB5-400.

So definitely consider a PowerBeam, the higher gain version.

NSM5

i have just bought a nano station M5 and I was looking on that coverage map and I think I might be in the shadow. I am located at 8700 Glenoaks Blvd and I was planning on adding the m5 on top of a 3 story building on a pole extending 8 feet above the roof. I wonder if it will work. I will try to do some scanning tonight. Fingers crossed.

Maybe
Yeah, you're on the hairy edge there. The node you want is on channel 177, with a bandwidth of 10 MHz. Good luck!

No luck
I have scanned that channel without luck.... I have seen another node in Sun Valley close to my location. Are there any plans for another node that will cover my location? Thank you.

Wonder if I could connect to Verdugo from 22738 Martha st. I want to join the network. I am a newbie.

Only with some height.
According to RadioMobile, no - unless you can get fairly high.  There is a small bump just east of you that just barely blocks you from Verdugo. When I plotted it with your antenna at 15 meters up, you have a path.  At 10 meters, it's barely there (not good enough).
