Monthly Meeting

The San Diego Mesh Working Group meets monthly on the 2nd Monday at 7:00 PM

Qualcomm Bldg Q,

6455 Lusk Blvd.

Sorrento Valley (San Diego)

We need to be escorted from the lobby to the conference room, so if you are not in the lobby by 7:05 PM, then email me (andre.k6ah at gmail.com) and I'll make arrangements to get you to the room.

SSID change

any plan for a coordinated SSID switch from BroadbandHamnet to AREDN?
I've updated my nodes to AREDN, but changed the SSID to BroadbandHamnet to maintain functionality.

Route flapping and looping in the SD network

I'm exercising part of the San Diego network by updating the software on a remote Raspberry Pi.

The data path looks like this, starting with marge.ka9q.net:

via Ethernet to ka9q-north (in University City);

via radio to w6qar-south (in Sorrento Mesa);

via ethernet to w6qar-e or w6qar-n (see below);

via radio to WL7AG-PQ (in Rancho Penasquitos);

via ethernet to WL7AQ-PQ-NE;

via radio to KG6EQU-MCHS (also in Rancho Penasquitos);

via ethernet to KG6EQU-MCHS-PI.

managed vs ad-hoc mode

I had hoped to bring this up at the meeting that was canceled for this month.

I have been trying to understand the cause(s) of poor performance on the SD mesh network that persists even after the move to "channel -2", 2397 MHz. Part of the problem is the OLSR route "flapping" and temporary routing loops I observed and reported on earlier, but I don't believe that's the whole story. I see a lot of ping time variability even when the links are unloaded and routing is stable, so I suspect it has to do with the transmitter control mechanisms in 802.11 WiFi.

Nano-node or ? for southbay (Otay Mesa)

I would be glad to host a node for southbay San Diego if it hasn't been done already.  I live at 864 Norstad St at an elevation of 217 feet and have a 40ft tower for use.  I will be procuring the necessary equipment and am looking for technical help in choosing the right router, switch, etc.  My call is: WA6KIN

San Diego Topology

San Diego Topology with Channel -2 as seen from KG6JEI-NSM2-1 (North County)

North County

I have a couple of nodes on the air at the north end of Oceanside on the coast. The 5Ghz Nanostation has a view of the coast, south over water, from about Solana Beach to La Jolla. The 2Ghz Nanostation is pointed more towards downtown to help fill in any CERT nodes there. Both have emergency power and are tunneled, mainly for remote management, so they are connected to the mesh at large.

Node(s) on Mt. Otay

Does anyone know if there are any plans to re-start/re-initialize any nodes on Mt. Otay?  I know previously there was one there.
