Hello everyone,
My name is Stephen Wilcox (N2DH). I’m a licensed amateur radio operator working on a recently relaunched, education-focused initiative called EmergencyHam.net.
The project explores how students, educators, modern IoT developers, and licensed amateur radio operators can work together on hands-on learning and technical experimentation using amateur radio as a resilient communications layer — with clear separation between Part 15 devices and Part 97 operation under control-operator supervision.
EmergencyHam.net is not intended to replace or compete with existing AREDN efforts. Instead, the goal is to create entry points for education and mentorship, where participants begin with simple sensor data and gradually learn about RF networking, redundancy, and IP-based amateur radio systems.
Given AREDN’s leadership in mesh networking, IP transport, and modern amateur radio experimentation, I’m reaching out to:
-
Learn from existing AREDN experience
-
Avoid reinventing established solutions
-
Gather feedback on whether this kind of educational framing aligns with current practice

I appreciate the work this community does and would welcome any thoughts or guidance.
