AREDN 4.26.10.0 Release

AREDN 4.26.10.0 Release

Major Features

  • Memory improvements
    • Babel footprint reduced by 4 MB
    • 2-4 MB additional memory improvement on 64M devices.
  • Support multi-mesh radios
    • For nodes with multiple radios it’s now possible to enable the various mesh modes on them simultaneously.
  • Support multi-station radios
    • A mesh station node can now configure multiple channels allowing it to automatically pick the best. Good for mobile nodes.
  • Improve channel availability
    • All hardware supported channel and bandwidth combinations should now be available. These can differ on different hardware, and only those actually supported will be shown.
  • Improve tunnel configurations
    • Tunnel configuration no longer includes IP addresses. Old tunnels will continue to work but new tunnels must be created between upgraded nodes.
    • New tunnels now default to a smaller MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit - 1280 bytes, the same as Tailscale) to improve compatibility with some ISPs, particularly cellular providers. Old tunnels are unaffected.
  • WAN improvements
    • A group of nodes now share the WAN available on just one of them.
    • WAN connectivity is monitored and only made available to others on the mesh if enabled and available.
  • Internet opt-out
    • A node can elect not to carry traffic to or from the Internet. Mesh-bound traffic is still routed through the node.
  • Mesh Tools
    • There’s now quick access to various tools from the mesh page.

New Devices Supported

  • Ubiquiti Bullet AC (2WA)
  • Ubiquiti NanoBeam 5AC Gen1 (WA)

Known Issues

  • AC radios no longer support channel 48, 52, 56 and 64.
    • Supporting too many channels on some radios causes them to crash; some were removed to resolve the issue. This affects all AC radios. Channels were selected not currently in use on the worldmap, but for >20MHz configurations this might still cause problems.
  • Poor performance may be observed when upgrading a Mesh Station to this release if the appropriate Mesh PtMP node has not been upgraded.
