A group of amateur radio operators in South Africa known as the the Mossel Bay Mesh Network responded to a call for emergency communications assistance in the recent fire disaster in the Western Cape area.

The New York City – Tata Consultancy Services (NYC TCS) Marathon is a hugely visible annual event. This early November road race draws runners from around the world. A record 51,388 finishers crossed the finish line on Sunday, November 6, 2016, making it the largest marathon in the world in history.
More than one million spectators and thousands of volunteers line the city streets in support of the runners, while millions more watch the television broadcast in 175 countries and territories, including viewers in the New York area on WABC-TV, Channel 7, nationally on ESPN2, and via various international broadcast partners.
A vast cadre of amateur radio operators provide essential communications to support the safety of race participants and organizers. An AREDN mesh network and associated Voice over IP telephony services provided the reliable communications infrastructure necessary for this important event. The story of this deployment in a very challenging environment is told by Gordon W2TTT.
The results you will see from a search have changed. By default, search results are now grouped by the type of source page. This means that all results from Forum Topics are grouped together separately from search results from Knowledge Base, How To, News, Announcements and other page types.
Additionally, the source forum is indicated so that you will immediately know if the search result originated in a regional sub-forum or something else, such as hardware, VoIP, deployment or ragchew.
We hope that this improvement makes finding information easier for you.
Andre Hansen, K6AH, gave a presentation today to the IARU Region 2 Emergency Communications Workshop in Viña del Mar, Chile. He introduced the technology and the work of the AREDN Project software development team and described techniques for deploying AREDN in support of AUXCOM.
NOTE: This technique is ONLY for older AREDN 3.0.2 nodes as tunnels are now built-in on AREDN 3.15.1.0 and above.Setting up a Tunnel Client and Server (with the Add-on Scripts)
IntroductionUpdate all nodes on your mesh with AREDN 3.0.2. (At least all the nodes connected to the internet). This is necessary to have the proper firewall configuration on all nodes. To avoid routing failures, if a given mesh has a tunnel and one or more advertised gateway nodes, then the tunnel node must be one of those... Read More |
